EQP

What are the latest rules for the amount of English qualified players you can have in a match day squad? Having lost a few EQPs we must be having to manage the ratios quite carefully at the moment. It could be that we can't always field the squad we want.

I believe it's 15/23. It might be 16? It's averaged over the season. And it's not a law, you just get some money if you do.

Typically we'd be looking at:

Harris/Chester, Taylor + Cruse, Brookes
Gaskell + Launch + Rowlands/Flament/Matthews (think he's technically eqp).
Shields/Wills

Robson + A N Other
Umaga/Searle
2 wingers + bench 23

So by my reckoning we're probably going to be rather close each week, but can likely push our numbers right up during the challenge cup (fairly sure that counts).

What’s the rules around EQP/Foreign Players?

Is it 2x non-EQP/Bosman/Kolpak allowed on the pitch at any one time? If so, we might be alright - Sops, ZZ and JTA are the non-EPQ/Bosman/Kolpak players that spring to mind that we tend to see in the matchday squads.

By my reckoning (I may have missed someone) our Non EQPs are:
1) ZZ
2) Ashley
3) JTA
6) Carr
7) Young
8 ) Vailanu
10) Lima
12) Jimmy
13) Fekiota, de Jongh
15) Minozzi

Which is the basis of a pretty good team.

Is Jimmy EQP?

He has never played for a full national side, and has lived 3 years in Newcastle which I think qualified him, didn't it, back then? With us he is in his 5th season. Isn't there a residency rule?

Without doing research and just from memory.. EQP ratio is set at 75% for each match day squad averaged out over the whole season.. which roughly equates to 17 players.

What makes someone qualifies as EQP has changed recently with the residency rules being lengthened... but Ashley and Jimmy may actually qualify although will never want to.. or have the chance.. to represent England.. but under residency rules they may now qualify as they were here before the rules changed.

I don't think I've read of any club being pinged for failing to meet the target though..

So perhaps its a rule that is loosely monitored.

It might explain end of season bench selections though with clubs trying to keep near the EQP ratio

Ashley has a handful of full Springbok caps, so can never be EQP.

He is, but unless he's been capped, then he's still potentially eqp. However, it looks like he moved to England for education purposes, so none of that will count towards EQPness, so he may not be for 5 years.
