... for their final match of the 2020 Rugby Europe Championship against Russia at the weekend.

The plan is that the relegation playoff between the Netherlands playing away to the side who finishes last on the weekend of 20/21 Feb, with the 2021 tournament starting on 6/7 March and finishing in July.

The potential spanner in the works is that the Belgian government have blocked the Belgian team traveling to Romania for the match that would most likely decide who finishes last. Given Netherlands has double the rate of infections as Romania has, I can't see the Dutch being allowed into Belgium for the relegation playoff. No decision has been made on what will happen now by Rugby Europe.

Given it looks unlikely that Chesty will be fit on Saturday it leaves us light at loose head.

My source did a double take when he saw the squad. Apparently they've had some overseas players decline the opportunity to play this week due to Covid bubbles at their clubs.

It is an extended squad, so they may well be released back to Wasps on Thursday or Friday, but if they were to catch the next available flight after Thursday evening out of Tiblisi, which departs at 5.15am on Friday morning, it would take them 10h 35m to get back to Stanstead with a stopover in Istanbul. They may also need Covid Testing before being allowed to join our bubble.
