Wasps' tackle completion percentage last Saturday 71%.  Frightening.

can that really be right?
we missed 3 in every 10 tackles?

I don't really pay much attention to the tackle stats normally, but if we're missing 3 in 10 tackles, I would expect a team to put a huge score on us
Why was it so close if we couldn't tackle and we could retain the ball either?

No, I'm not asking if that was against Sarries, I want to compare that to the Sarries game.

These are from the Premiership Rugby website, so only cover the league games

For the Saracens game, we made 150 tackles and missed 15
Saracens made 176 and missed 18
https://www.premiershiprugby.com/live/?FixGuid=18SL5402
so we missed 15 out of a possible 165. i.e so that's a 91% completion percentage i assume.

For the Brisol game, we made 155 and missed 12
Bristol made 182 and missed 34
https://www.premiershiprugby.com/live/?FixGuid=18LB0620
I make that a 93% completion rate

Even when we lost 36-17 to Saints, we made 135 and missed 25
That's a 84% completion rate

I'm going to try to find some other stats for the Toulouse game because I feel that if it's just 71%, we should have been absolutely hammered

The stats on the ultimate rugby app back up the OP

Wasps with a 71% tackle success rate
Toulouse with a 78% success rate

Wasps made 98 tackles, Toulouse made 168

I just can't understand these stats

Seems unlikely for such a low scoring game. Do they say what constitutes a "tackle"?

The tackles made I can. We had most of the possession. Tackles missed. Very few that caused us a lot of grief, but plenty missed by the first tackler, but caught by #2 or #3. What we failed on was getting two tacklers on the player breaking through and stopping them at the first contact. Not all the time, but enough. One person tried to stop them, followed very quickly by #2 and #3. But the stats would show that scenario as 50% missed. Same where we broke through their lineout after a loose ball. Often gathered by their scrum half, he dodged the first tackle, then got hammered. Same at the KO. The receiver gets the ball. Elliot, going at full tilt, fails to make the first tackle, and so the receiver gets taken by the second tackler.
