St Bruno, I was a Sarries guest at the St Valentine's Day massacre. We scored 3 tries in the first 10 mins or so and everyone around me was in a state of shock. The clubhouse was quiet at half-time and like a morgue after the game.

I got a free family ticket from Sarries to any league match the season following a summer training camp they delivered at my local club as a thank you for helping out their coaching team. Naturally I chose the Wasps game.

It was early 2000s, no idea which year, but I do know we won. We nearly always did in those days though!

Here's the Google translation of that article:

Benetton Rugby announces that it has mutually terminated the contract that bound the player Matteo Minozzi to the green and white club until 30 June 2025. The full-back, who arrived in Treviso in November 2022, has made 6 appearances for the Lions.

Matteo Minozzi said: "My adventure at Benetton Rugby comes to an end, a club that I would like to thank for extending a hand to me in my time of need as I was coming from some injuries and the failure of Wasps. Sadly, this year and a half has not gone the way we both sides wanted it to go. I've never been able to get back in shape or be the player I was and that led me to only make six appearances in this shirt. So, as the months went by, I realized that it was time to start planning my future after rugby. We discussed this with the company and by mutual agreement we decided to terminate our relationship. I will open a multi-sports center that has padel as its focus: another great passion of mine. In thanking all those who have been close to me over the years, I wish the club all the best and look forward to seeing you in my new centre that I will inaugurate in the spring."

"When a player says he prefers to stop playing and start thinking about a future away from rugby, it's something that clearly always strikes you. At the same time, it must make you reflect on how important it is to create your own post-career despite continuing to play. In addition to being a great player, although in the last period he has not been able to reach the standards required by us and by himself, Matteo has managed to think about the future and this must be a lesson for everyone and therefore he deserves our congratulations. On behalf of the whole club, we wish Minozzi the best of luck and that this activity can guarantee him a wonderful future," said Antonio Pavanello, general manager of the Lions.

I know the eye injury really affected him, and it also caused a great deal of concern to the medical staff at Wasps. Such a pity he never recovered to near the brilliance he showed during the six nations when he was one of the players of the tournament. Hope his new venture goes well.

RIL on Twitter / X reporting that Sarries are after Sam Spink for next season.

Sam's in Australia playing (pretty well) for Western Force in Super Rugby.

Edit: that said, I see they got hammered at home on Saturday. Sam played the full 80' though.

I don't think Wade will get much game time now SL is in charge and I see Racing are dropping down the Top 14 under his stewardship, still it will be better when OF rocks up, NOT

Think thats more to do with the rest of the squad being very good & their first wingers not being injured. He didnt play much last year once they were fit & that had nothing to do with SL

To add, happy to be proved wrong, but wasn't Lancaster the last England coach to pick Christian Wade in an England squad?

Lancaster and Jones should never have been near England, nor Johnson.

Farrell Snr doesn't seem to be doing a bad job.
