More Financial Trouble?

Tweet from A View From LE2 / Elliott Butlin

I?m fairly confident that in the very near future we will hear news about the financial situation of another Premiership club. And I?m fairly sure it won?t be pretty news either.

Will the RFU/PRL get their wish for a 10 team league?

I know companies don?t have to use the government financial year, April to March, but many do and I wonder if an auditor is refusing to sign off or perhaps a tax bill or bank or other loan becomes due at the month?

Rugby is certainly living in interesting times.

I think it depends on which club is staring into the abyss.

If it's a "big" club, then all the stops will pulled out to ensure the survival of the club. The 10 club league will have to wait.

If it's anyone else, then I'd speculate that enough support will be given, probably as a PR exercise to show lessons have been learned, but it might not be enough to stop a club from winding up as it will be a convenient path to the coveted 10 club league.

Irish?
Falcons?
Sharks?

Or could it be Saracens? I can only hope!

I wonder if having a success with pushing Wasps over the edge by changing repayment conditions if HMRC are doing it again. If so the whole league will be scared sh1tless. Quite a pleasing thought.

I'd hazard a small wager on Exeter.

Really difficult one to guess, The Cheats are losing the most money, Irish and Newcastle have the least income with no rich backers, Leicester and Sale are known to be suffering badly as is Exeter.

If the owners of Brizzle and Barf have decided to stop chucking good money after bad down the swanee?

Could be anyone except Sinners I should think

Tigers?  I'd be happy if it was EAs but you can't have most of the English team not playing in the Premiership.  Or can you?

I may be the only one but I don't want any other clubs to go under like Wasps & Warriors have done.
Even Sarries.....   well, Ok maybe Sarries, but no one else.

I don't want one to go bar Sarries, because they are still cheating. BUT. A big but. It might be in Wasps' interst if 3 or more clubs went. If the whole league collapses we may stand a better chance of top tier rugby than a 10 club ringfenced league would.

Personally the whole bloody lot could go and I would shed no tears (some desreve it more than others though). Maybe then with a fresh start we could get something towards a more successful format. Mind you they would need to take the RFU down with them.

I'll settle for the RFU and PRL going under.
