Next years squad
« on: May 22, 2019, 10:36:32 AM »
Has this been done yet?

Loosehead: ZZ, McIntyre, Harris, West
Hooker: Cruse, Taylor, Johnson, Oghre
Tighthead: JTA, Brookes, Daniels, Owlett, Alo
Lock: Launchbury, Rowlands, Gaskell, Matthews, Garratt, Cardell
Flanker: Shields, Willis, Young, Reider, Morris, Willis
Eight: Carr, Vailanu

Scrumhalf: Robson, Vellacott, Porter
Flyhalf: Sopoaga, Searle
Centre: MLB, Neal, JdJ, Fekitoa, Gopps, Spink
Wing: Watson, Bassett, Sirker
Fullback: Miller, Minozzi, James

Who have I missed that is confirmed senior?

Looking at that, expected promotions of Porter, Willis jr, Umaga, Spink and Simonds fills out the roster quite nicely in my mind. Especially with challenge cup, rather than champions. Barbeary would round out the hookers too thinking about it (also makes it 6 promotions which i think had some meaning to someones clues?).

So they've now been announced and I've filled in the new seniors from the academy. Still a little light at wing I think, and I forgot about Oghre for hooker. Happy with that though.

There was definitely a big hint that the number of Academy promotions would be an even number.  I suspect we'll find out within a week or two exactly who is being promoted to the senior squad.  My guess is that it will be quite a few, and that it will have a knock on effect on the squad.  Transitioning one person is tough, but can be done by existing coaches, doing the same for 6 or 8 I think is gonna be trickier.

I also think we'll get some more signings being anounced in the not too distant future.  Just looking at that list we are short a couple of wingers at the very least.

News we have been waiting for!

It worries me that Jacob Umaga in not in that list. Gutfeel says that he will be off elsewhere.

Otherwise delighted to see these lads make it to the first team squad. Bodes well for the future. Also suggests that there will be new recruits to the Senior Academy.

Looking at that list with the edits, we look light at Fly Half unless we are again going to rely on cover from Millar and Goppeth.  I wonder what is happening to Umaga?

My guess is he thought he would not get game time, so has gone. Use them or lose them. Will Wasps never learn?

We've just promoted 7 players from the academy to the 1st team, including the England U20 Captain.  Will  Wasps never learn? ;)

Maybe he's on loan in NZ again precisely to get game time?

Just won't to say folks i wasn't trying to mislead you with my 2,4,6,8 reference, I am pretty sure Umaga named was mentioned so i believed it to be 8 i did put 8 smileys on my original posting but couldn't remember all the names, but their is a second line that goes 3,5,7,9 so close enough. This is greatness for a rebuilding season, not sure what's happened with Umaga though but lets focus on those that have said yes, some real talent there and the future of Wasps :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

On the staff side, I wonder if George Smith will take up coaching now that he has retired from playing. I seem to remember comments from players about his professionalism and spending time helping younger players. He spent a little time with England as well.

He's going to coach in Japan.
