Cashless areas
« on: October 18, 2019, 05:15:05 PM »
Just seeing that four areas (Mill, Bakery, Clubhouse, Hospitality) will all be cashless on Sunday. Does this irritate anyone else as much as it does me. I'll be taking cash and spending it wherever takes it. I'm sure I've heard the whole arena will move to cashless soon.

Its called "progress" Shugs. I have to say that I use cash less & less. Even the local parking meters will let me pay 70p by contactless card. Saves everyone from having to bag up cash from sales and open all the meters to collect the cash - & then go to the banks and be charged for the privilege of paying in cash.
I was amused to see a busker in the Underground with his mobile up ready for anyone who wanted to contribute to make a contactless payment - but he did claim that the minimum had to be £2.

Not me. I like contactless. When I was last at HQ they had some cashless bars and the service was way faster. It is far cheaper for them to take payment this way. No tills, no staff to man the tills, no staff to empty them, no security wagon to take the cash away (and they charge a LOT do this, plus a hefty % to actually bank that cash - they have to check for forgeries and count it all).

Go to the casino. They are still, to my knowledge, taking folding. They also keep a wider range of beer/lager.

It also renders the whole place useless when the system goes down, which at some point it will.

I've been at Twickenham when they have had problems, they just stop serving. A problem no-one ever had with cash.

I'm with you all the way H.. the Casino is the best place to go.. experienced bar staff... reasonable prices compared to the the rest of the stadium...

There is a cost to the business when cash is banked I think.  Strange world but it seems banks don't like cash either!!! Also, I think experience shows that staff fraud is less if cash is not taken.  Cheques qere under attack but the banks backed off.  I am happy with a credit/debit card and contactless but I can see a time when it all gets done through the mobile and I won't welcome that at my age!!!!!!!!

Completely valid benefits for the business. Not so much for the punter.

Cashless with cards is fine.

What they have done in France, however, is unacceptable.

You cannot use money to buy food or drink. You have to buy tokens. So you get no change from your token, and if you haven't used them, you cannot exchange them for cash. This is appallingly cynical. They had this at the World U 20's in Bezier, they had it at Agen early season. They will definitely have it for the World Cup in 2023 unless there is an outcry.

I got fed up missing the game, so bring my own coffee and soft drinks for the others now. I used to enjoy a pint or two, but don't really miss it and saving a fortune!

France is interesting when it comes to financial matters. It is illegal to be overdrawn at your bank. Cheques are regularly used in shops and other retail outlets. I cannot cash a cheque at my bank - SocGen. I need a cash withdrawal card to get money from the dispenser.

Not a fan of progress, myself. The same progress gives me fifty pox ridden emails a day everytime someone farts, a hundred mouldy arsed forms to fill in using endless reams of over analysed data that suffers one fundamemtal flaw- it is all stark naked emporer level balls and is employed by people with no actual understanding of teaching.

The height of computing was 1984 and the Dragon 64, and everything has been downhill since with the infernal machines taking over creating reams of middle managers who Douglas Adams would have recognised as Golgafinchams.

When and if retire it will be to the Channel Islands where I can spend one pound notes ;). While I am at it, can I have Rugby Special and Nigel Starmer Smith back! ;D

Ok I'll bite.

Progress is amazing. Some people use it for the wrong things, but there are amazing things going on because of technological progress.

I'm involved with this sort of thing for example  https://youtu.be/y5bktGGkd9w

I suspect Backdoc has been involved in some amazing technological advances in Orthopaedic Surgery as well.

People have been complaining about the poor service at The Ricoh since we moved in, we shouldn't also complain they are looking at ways to resolve that

Like VV I think this is a great move forward for the Ricoh. There will be moans (I still like cheques!!) but it is the way forward. Last night I did a check of the last month and apart from Direct Payments out of 36 payments one was a cheque, 21 were touchy thing and the rest chip and pin. The amount did surprise me but we move forward.
Only once was I caught out in a coffee shop where the staff were in confusion because both tappy and chip had ceased to function and many of the younger crowd had no money. This was at Holborn in London so no surprises.
Let me tell you something cucumber

Will be a double whammy when you realise there’s also nowhere to padlock your penny farthing to either! ;) :P
