Most expensive positions
« on: December 30, 2019, 09:57:11 AM »
On one of the threads (probably a Saracens related one), I posted some statistics about the highest paid positions in the 3 main NH leagues for the 18/19 season.
Esportif have just posted the details for the 19/20 season

I don't really understand how they can compile this list if salaries are secret and only passed onto the salary cap manager... but hey ho.

For comparison, I've posted both the 18/19 and 19/20 details below

2018/2019

All very interesting, but I'm not sure what it really highlights.

The fact that locks in the premiership have shot up to the top might be due to the likes of Itoje, Launchbury and Lawes all getting new contracts this season (did they?)

No.8 has also shot up the table for the premiership - based on Nathan earning £500k ?

The french seem to have suddenly paid a lot for wingers this year.

Given that French teams seem to run so many of their plays from the scrum half, I'm surprised to see the 9's so far down the chart

Very interesting. Who'd be a hooker! Would be illuminating to see the actual averages - I imagine they've levelled out a bit across the positions.

Amusingly, it was Tom Cruse that tweeted it

Why do you think Tight Heads are so well better paid than their front row partners?

Tight head is a more specialist position.

Equally, teams normally have 3 tightheads and 4 looseheads (with one who can swap). Or sometimes the otherway round.

All teams pretty much have 4 hookers. The lowest paid one will bring down the average of all the rest, far more than 3 number 10s or number 9s etc.

Locks will be well paid because whilst you'll only have 5 or so, 2 are starters and 1 is on the bench, meaning heavily weighted towards cash.

At least, that's one explanation.

Ha! Subtle way of asking for a pay rise.

If players Salaries aren’t published, then how do they know this/how have they come to this conclusion?
