Back row juggling.
« on: August 18, 2020, 04:17:47 PM »
Our back row was phenomenal on Sunday. I've been trying to work out how on earth we're going to get through the remaining games in that department however. First up picks BS, TY and JW speak for themselves. But underneath that as far as I can tell we have Morris who could probably play 6,7 or 8. Vailanu who can play 8. Tom Willis who can play 8 or, at a push probably flanker. Douglas who is a 2nd row who can do back row and Gaskell who is the same. It's 6 and 7 that are the issue. We can rotate the 8's to give Shields time at 6 but beyond that I don't see a way round it. My worry is that we overplay JW and TY. A tempting strategy based on their talent but not a great long term.

Don't forget Thibaud as a 6. A different kind of beast, but we will have to ration Jack and Thomas.

I expect next back row will start Flament, Morris and Vailanu, T Willis on Bench. If T Willis can play flank, start him there. We might even give Will Wilson a couple of games.

My sentiments are the same, Jack and Young can't be overplayed because I'm worried we'll break them....

Yes, forgot about Flament at 6. Certainly an option. Might have been worth extending Ash through to the end of the season?

Would a better use of resources be to separate them so we have a ball fetcher available every game? Might be a luxury to have them both start all the time. Also, leave the 2 8's where they are, so T Willis and Vailanu, freeing up Shields to play flank.

The rules on player welfare will enable us to keep a fairly strong 23 every week.

Indeed John. Worcester will most likely be down to a maximum of 30 for the next few matches as I can't see Nanai avoiding a ban.

What are you basing the maximum of 30 on? They've got more in their squad than that.

On Friday when I checked the PRL website they had 31 registered players. It's now up to 32 (https://www.premiershiprugby.com/club/worcester-warriors/#squad).

With Nanai likely to be banned it reduces them to 31 again.

Wilson has left the club.
Imagine we’ll see one of the back row from Saints start with Morris and Vailanu with T Willis on the bench.

Wonder if with Tibo off others might be given the game time now over him

I too had been wondering how much we would be seeing of Thibaud playing for us.  If he is behaving like a professional he will give his all if called upon to play. It will be interesting  to  watch.

Not sure the club announced Wilson’s departure actually, possibly just on his Instagram and think it’s for him to go and work in London
