Sale busting the cap with Ford?
« on: November 17, 2021, 11:51:19 AM »
£1.6m over 3 years for one player?

Not considering this is Ford we are talking about. Insane on 3 counts; the player himself, the annual cost to their cap, a 3 year deal.

There's a few players reported earning a million in the prem. Now admittedly that's often marquee, but Manu has been reported to have been offered similar sums.

Sale are apparently losing a few of their big name saffas too.

Ford wants the cash, can earn it, especially if he's ridiculously no longer wanted by England, and apparently has business interests up there that'll be easier to handle if he's in the area.

Isn't £1.6m over 3 years "only" £533k/year? A very good wage, but hardly smashing the Prem's top earning record.

I'd expect that they will receive incentives for Enlish based as well as the fact that McGinty is on his way out.

I think with further rumours of De Jaeger and De Klerk plus a few others individuals heading off they should find room.

From someone who called this back in September, they say it's because of his dad leaving.

Ford was on similar amount prior to COVID, but Leicester reduced it during COVID and never brought it back up.

I think arguments of Sale breaking the cap are unreasonable. I get they've got several big players, but they've got a very thin squad. Similar problems to Bristol, lots of top and bottom players, not many in the middle.

I'm sure there are several players in Bath, Bristol and Saracens earning at least that amount. There may even be 1 or 2 in Wasps. The issue is how many can be covered by the marquee.

Supposedly Farrell and itoje both earn more than that - only 1 can be a marquee player.
Daly was potentially signed for a salary close to that

I think the rumours were that Hughes left us for Bristol for £500k.
He couldn't be a marquee player for them.

Even Jake Cooper Woolley left us for £300k+

As such, just over 500k for a top premiership quality and international fly half doesn't seem so outrageous

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Sale offload De Jaager. He’s been a massively expensive flop.

According to some Sale fans on Reddit, he's class but always injured or on international duty.
