I almost jokingly suggested this happening in another thread with discussion of Curry out.

This is great for him and his confidence but thjnk he is a way off just yet from being at this level again. He was more of a pest at the breakdown but probably was his carrying that shone more against Saints.

I agree its great for Jack's confidence but i must admit I think Jack is about 5/6 games away from getting back to his best, so i don't understand why EJ would call him up, especially as he may be a replacement for Curry, who is England's only flanker

My question v France is if not Curry at 7 then who? Willis could easily start for me.

He will probably go with Underhill and Lawes as starting Flankers

With Alfie taking his spot on the wing, or maybe Marchant to wing and Alfie to centre, just to be sure we are maximising the number or players in less than customary positions.

Jack doesn’t make it to plane. What was the point?

https://www.rugbypass.com/news/max-malins-the-big-casualty-as-england-cut-squad-to-28-for-france-six-nations/

That's been a common query for both a) returning injured players, and b) "junior" players like Martin last season, he got to play but without any experience and is subsequently dropped......when in good form....and c) Eddie jones.....

The squad is always going to be reduced. There is a need for a larger squad so you have enough players for two scrums etc, these are always set lengths and then the small match day squad is chosen.

I think that calling up returning injured players is to see how they have recovered and to reintegrate them back into the international squad and to have some time to make assessments as to whether they are yet ready for international matches. With the youngsters it seems similar, see how they get on, give them a chance, maybe give them some work-ons. We may not agree with some of the selections but I have no issues with looking at players and giving them a bit of time in the wider squad.

For Jack it may well have been a nice boost for him to know that he is back in EJ's plans even if he isn't yet ready to play in Paris yet.

It’s perfectly obvious why Eddie called him into camp.
He was never going to play against France, his not fit enough anyway.
But Eddie needs opposing players in training…and he probably thought Jack would add some good competition at the breakdown in the full session they did today.

Whether you agree with it, or not, Eddie feels he needs high calibre training opposition.
However, it doesn’t seem to make too much difference with the performances on the pitch.
