In today's episode of Offended on Social Media
« on: May 16, 2022, 11:22:12 AM »
The Good, The Bad and The Rugby Twitter account had the audacity to put a Tweet out showing an image of most England Caps for Front-Row forwards.

Their fatal error? They failed to reference that it was specifically the most England Men's Caps for Front-Row forwards and in the process of tweeting a picture not referencing omitted to list Rocky Clark as the most capped England player of all time.

Despite being one of the co-hosts and not the person who Tweeted it, Haskell had the finger pointed at him being told how disrespectful it was/is to Women and Women's rugby by Simi Pam, one of the Bristol Women's players.  He replied with "Have a day off" and rugby social media world exploded.

All seems a bit bonkers when the account and people everyone are suddenly up in arms about have a Podcast dedicated to Women's Rugby - The Good, The Scaz and The Rugby and also regularly invite currently Womens Players and ex-Players to participate in The Good, The Bad and The Rugby Podcast.

In my opinion that makes it worse. The mistake probably wasn't intentionally belittling to Rocky Clark, but when it was pointed out they acted in entirely the wrong way. Rather than take it on the chin, Hask doubled down - in exactly the same way you are - thinking it was "just" some "woke" type having a moan, when in fact it was a current professional player in the Allianz Premier 15s.

The guy is a grade A dickhead, and doing this in public just means more people have seen it.

Precisely. Acknowledge, set the record straight, and move on.

Maybe hasks should have answered in a better way, but can understand his frustration at a pretty pathetic point scoring question.
After all no one mentions Ellen White for goals scored in lists or Fara Williams for most caps when talking about football.

I imagine the asker was similarly frustrated. Maybe it was intended as a genuine question.

I think the fact that it referred to men's players, while not explicitly stated, was implied by the context, so Hask has a point.  I don't see his reaction as misogyny (as seems to be suggested), just frustration at what he sees as unnecessary pedantry when the content of the article was clear for all to see.

I agree that Hasks should should have acknowledged the point and apologised for not being clear he meant men, but would we have had the same problem if a podcast on the women’s game had done a list and not included men?

This is more about how social media, and Twitter in particular, doesn’t allow nuance or acknowledgement of error and selects for argument.

Totally agree with this. And after all - the women’s game hardly needs Haskell’s affirmation in any way shape or form.
