I'm not to sure how important the passing stat is, very surprised Billy passes so much, but the meters per carry in the big one for a number 8 for me. Tom is still very young and will only get better.
Surprising that the stats are pretty close, especially as Billy has supposedly had a really good season. Sorry to ask but it would be interesting to see Alex Dombrants stats considering he is meant to be England's first choice 8
I included passes partly as there was such a big disparity there but also to show how they can be used differently. Not every team uses their 8 in the same way. The ability to act as a primary distributer means that they can stand at 1st receiver and be a genuine threat either ball in hand, passing out the back or tipping on to another carrier. If you don't pass and just run then defences are less worried about other threats and can focus on chopping you. BV and to a lesser extend Alex Dombrandt (see below) are used more as distributers and this versatility may be one reason why there are selected more at international level.
For me some of the most important stats aren't as widely available i.e. the metres post contact - an 8 used to field kicks and run from deep will generate more 'free' metres and carries.
