Seem to remember Houghaard's best games were when he played on the wing. Maybe that was just the way those particular games played out with all of the disruption.

I think he's our best "defensive" winger. He's not going to scorch 90 yeard winners, but to negate an opposition wing I don't think we've got anyone better.

That's not to say he's a first choice on the wing though.

I thought he was a helluva defender.

Did hougaard play more than 1 game for us at 9?

People often talk about one big winger, one elusive runner.

When thinking about hougaard on the wing, I immediately think of 1 intelligent winger and someone else.

I don't know what his salary is, but I certainly see benefit in having him

One intelligent winger and one... less intelligent winger? :D

I think there’s a difference between making some big hits and being generally effectively defensively. He was out of position a hell of a lot. Going the other way - not enough pace.

Hougaard baffles me, he was so very influential when he played for Wuss, but I don't recall him ever having a good game for us at 9???

To be far, none of 9s performed consistently well enough to hold down 1st choice for long. It must have been Dan’s worst season.

Or at least that’s how my memory is at the moment.

And therein lies the real mystery with Hougaard.  Despite all other 9s misfiring at one time or another last season, he never got a meaningful opportunity at 9 himself, despite being signed as a 9 (presumably!).

Didn't he have quite a long term injury?

How many games did he play at 9?

I remember there being one early in the season where he wasn't great.
I don't remember any after that

Honestly can't remember, there are a few statos on here though, who I'm sure will know. Not sure that he started too many, but think he came off the bench a few times. I was pretty excited by his signing, but totally underwhelmed by the performances. Hmmmm, that sounds familiar for our "big name" signings......

So, I am a bit confused. He signed a one year deal with us? If he did, I didn't see any news of an extension or of him leaving?

Last season. One game at 9 (Starting vs EA's in Prem)
9 starts at wing including 6 Prem games
2 early games (around start at 9) off bench.

For me we had two top class nines and a couple of up and coming ones, none of whom did anything of note.

So the fault was either a communication issue with the forwards/ten or it was a style of play issue.

Either way it's on the coaching team to resolve.
