Statement from Pat Lam. Read to the end for Genge.

I wonder if we will not have Jack either?

Genge played a lot more minutes than Jack so I’d be surprised if he’s not playing against Bristol especially with Brad injured

Bristol are also without Stephen Luatua, Harry Thacker, Dan Thomas and Semi Radradra too.

If we can get Tom West, Tim Cardall and Nizaam Carr back on Saturday I reckon we can take the points.

As long as we come from behind and don't nil them in the first half... ;)

Quite so. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good player - just not the Demi-god the media portray.

I like him as a player, but I want my LH to be super solid before anything else. Hence, my England RWC/6Ns  preference is for Marler starting at LH because if you are likely facing the sort of TH that (for example) SA and France can put out, I want solidity at scrum time before anything else.

Is he not solid at scrum time? Although he's not the biggest guy he's very aggressive to make up for it IMO

Genge is hands down the best LH in the Premiership

Personally I think Marler is best at scrum time. But that's just this old prop! Marler isn't the best all around player, with Genge you get a lot more. I guess we'll see when it comes to the AI's when England need to scrum vs SA.

Not in my book. It depends on what you are looking for in a prop.

I've seen Genge dominant opposition tight heads in a way I haven't seen since Sheridan, but I've also seen him get in a bit of trouble too.

I don't recall seeing Marler struggling with his opposite number.

I'd take either personally, but given how Wasps tend to play, it'd be nice to have the power/aggression of Genge in open play.

That being said, West is a very strong scrummager, and Martinez looked very good before his injury.
Right now I'd take anyone that's fit

Name a better one. He's one of the best in the modern game.
Last weekend in a single game, according to stats, he beat more players, scored more tries and beat more defenders than West has the last 2 seasons.
Oh, and he's probably the better scrumager...
Being a likeable human being isn't the measure of a prop, if it was, he's a massive fail.

Unfortunately, we're not going to get the matchup I'd like to see this weekend. Genge and Koch going head to head in the scrum.
