The reality is that all the (now) ex-players need to earn a living between now and next season and need to keep in shape and in some sort of form. That almost certainly means playing elsewhere if they can.

What is encouraging is most players who've secured something are doing so until the end of this season. That means Wasps can make them an offer for next season once definite plans can be made. Some players will take it and some may get better offers for their career in the next recruitment cycle.

Let's hope we get enough good players to give us a solid foundation for the future.

Agree Mellie. I’m mentally keeping a tally on those gone long term and those on short term. Happy to be corrected but seems to be:
LT : Carr, Atkinson, Minozzi, Alo, McDonald.
ST: Porter, Koch, Odogwu, Hislop,
Not sure: Shields, Bassett, Frost
Not suggesting we’ll get the ST players back.

Considering the number of premiership players without a club at the end of last season, the inevitable merry-go-round that will happen as some players are let go to make way for those ex Wasps and Wuss players that get picked up long term plus hopefully getting some of the First Team and Academy guys back. I think it won't be too difficult to build a team that is able to compete at the top of the Championship. Getting all the finances sorted to start recruitment ASAP will be really important.

If we can keep a core of the old Wasps players together they could build something very special.

Plus Willis J ......  isn't he short term too?  No news on T. Willis or Stooke, presumably due to injury?

In the Telegraph

Exclusive: Wasps head coach Lee Blackett to join Scarlets
Scarlets want Blackett until the end of the season with a view to a longer-term contract, but he could return to Wasps next term

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2022/11/01/exclusive-wasps-head-coach-lee-blackett-expected-join-scarlets/

"Lee Blackett has become the latest Wasp to find refuge, with the stricken club's head coach close to agreeing a deal to join Scarlets in Wales.

Wasps have been in freefall since entering administration on Oct 17, with 167 players and staff made redundant as a result. They will ply their trade in the Championship next season if a takeover deal can be completed as they look to climb their way back to the Premiership.

Telegraph Sport understands their highly rated head coach is on the verge of linking up with Scarlets as assistant to former Wales and British & Irish Lions scrum-half Dwayne Peel. Blackett is part of the Barbarians coaching team to take on Northampton Saints on Nov 26, but Scarlets want him to join them until the end of the season with a view to a longer-term contract.

If the deal is completed Blackett will take charge of Scarlets’ attack where he will work with experienced Wales internationals Jonathan Davies, Scott Williams, Leigh Halfpenny, Rhys Patchell, and Gareth Davies.

However, it is possible Blackett could return to Wasps next season as they aim to return to the top tier of English rugby at the first time of asking.

Blackett had been at Wasps for seven years, first as assistant to Dai Young before stepping up to take the top job. The former Rotherham coach led Wasps to the Premiership final in 2020 where they narrowly lost to Exeter Chiefs. He is considered one of the most innovative attacking coaches in the English game, and his potential departure would be a big loss to the club.

Over the past few weeks Wasps players have been snapped up by several clubs across Europe. Former England blindside Brad Shields has joined Top 14 outfit Perpignan with South African World Cup-winning prop Vincent Koch signing for Stade Francais. Outside-half Charlie Atkinson has moved to Premiership champions Leicester Tigers while Italy full-back Matteo Minozzi is returning to Benetton.

With the English game strapped for cash and the salary cap set at £5 million there are very few opportunities for those affected by the financial collapse of Wasps and Worcester to stay in the Premiership"
