After a 17 year career, scrum half Joe Simpson has announced his retirement from rugby.

Good luck for the future, Joe. I always enjoyed watching you play.

Best wishes to Joe. A brilliant player, with lightning pace. Very humble when chatting to fans etc.

I remember him practicing kicks down the touchline with Dan Robson before an away game at the Stoop. The height of the kicks he made were extraordinary.

Plus 1 for both entries above. Such a lovely chap, and such a joy to watch. All the best to you and yours, and a happy fulfilling future.  Thank you Simmo.

What a player and what a bloke.  If we needed telling, the letter could not have made his affection for Wasps any clearer.  That's what OAWAAW is all about, right there.

Good luck with whatever comes next, and would be great to welcome you back to Wasps in whatever capacity and in whatever form in the not too distant future.

Absolute bloody legend of a player, and a man. I met him a few times and he was unfailingly friendly, polite, and kind to my kids. The epitome of everything positive about rugby.

I wish him all the success in the world with whatever he does next.

I kinda lost track of him after he left us.
I know he was at Gloucester for a while, but not sure how that went.

Is his retirement a reflection on his age, or is it more due to there being less domestic top level teams?

One of my favourite ever players. Spent years playing behind a Wasps pack that went backwards and yet still pulled some amazing plays out of the bag. Like greased lightning. Frustrating at times, lost count of the number of times I’d shout just bloody pass it Joe, but I wouldn’t have swapped him for any other scrum half. Thank you Joe.

An incredible player and thoroughly likable guy.  His career was a real tale of two halves though and i'm still not sure whether the Simmo 2.0 we saw who seemed to spend more time box-kicking possession away and pondering options at the base of a ruck was due to Joe, Dai or England Coaches.

He was someone who played at a ferocious pace early on and the moment he saw a chink in the defence in front of him he was gone.  It was a lot of fun watching those days.
