Three Changes Needed? - Telegraph

There is no polite way to say this. It is fucking bullshit from the paper that bought you stuff during covid that was one step away from anti vax and was enthusiastic about Truss's premiership.

Ten team prem won't work. End of.

andermt:
The reduced games and season ticket prces staying the same has already made teams make commitments to supporters about adding in games to make up for the shortfall, so how long before fans have enough of paying for academy games dressed up as 1st team matches at 1st team prices.

Other than Baxter I've not seen too many people pushing for the 10 game league, I think the 12 team worked, it only went to 13 to keep the cheats happy. It should have gone to 14 but they seemed to be doing everything they could to block that 14th team coming up.

Even if they go to 2 10 team leagues, how do they drop some of the championship teams to the National 1st, then drop teams all the way down the league structure, can you imagine the effect on a team at Midlands West 2 N (or whatever convoluted name they have) just about hanging on and not being relegated to then be told that because the Prem is being restructured they are getting relegated anyway!

JF:
If a ten team league is better than a 12 team league then surely an eight team league would be even better. After all, fewer matches means there's an even more competitive element.

Someone really needs to go on a basic numeracy course if they truly believe this load of old tosh.

Bloke in North Dorset:
Another thought on the 10 / 8 team league with off periods during the AI and 6N games.

One of the risks to player safety is not being match fit. As tiredness sets in the brain goes sluggish and tacklers start mistiming their hits, a danger to tackler and tackled. At the start of the season this might not be much of a problem as all players are equally unfit so perhaps aren't hitting as hard.

Now, imagine there's just been a 6 week break for the 6N, including the week leading up to it. What happens when the league resumes? We now have 30+ international standard players buzzing around the pitch hitting players who aren't match fit. As well as being dangerous this favours the clubs that supply the international players, distorting the league further.

Those clubs that don't have a lot of internationals are going to be desperate to get some game time, both for their players' match readiness and to fill the coffers, so so much for player welfare.

To counter this we will be told that international players have to take x games off, perhaps maybe the first 2 matches after the restart, which on the surface sounds reasonable. The problem is that it means club fans aren't going to see internationals, and rugby fans will want to see them even if playing for the opposition to see how well their own favourites are getting on, and it devalues the TV product.

As I said above, this is all knee jerk evidence policy making, nobody is sitting down and providing well argued reports, complete with data, to justify these assertions with the biggest tension that needs addressing being the club V country and the high and increasing numbers of internationals.

After reading that piece it's clear to me the correspondent is big on analogies, small on logic.
