Title: TRP
Post by: Neils on June 06, 2021, 07:46:03 AM
Lee looking for a speedy Paolo replacement assuming he will be missing for most of next season. I wonder if that is a winger?

Nothing else. Match report read is good after the event.

Sky finding it difficult to get commentators for the Lions trip.

Are there any potential academy prospects to promote? As in use Spink more and promote somebody else?

Perhaps Alfie will get his crack at 13 after all.

Interesting. I'd welcome a centre coming in. We've got Gopperth, Mills, Fekitoa, Spink, MLB and Odogwu but two of those have a lot of injuries and Odogwu is out long term. Very early I know but I think Atkinson would make a great 12.

I had similar thoughts - especially now he's added a bit of timber - and if we don't think he'd make a fab 15...

Watching him, I like him at 10, but Jacob long term is class there.....I like us to play with a second 5/8th style player (NZ style) and that can be either at 12 or 15. NZ have tended towards such a player at 15 with a big 12. So if and only if Mills gets fit - we'll have the nicest of dilemmas.

Whilst Mills isn't that large a 12 I do think he'd go well with Jacob and with Minozzi, we have a class 15....so if they get fit.....choices.

The thing about Jacob is that he doesn’t strike me as having the same defensive tenacity as Charlie to play Full-Back, nor the same potential force to play 12, which is why even though Charlie may well turn out to be an as accomplished (or potentially more so) 10 than Jacob we won’t see him then when Jacob is fit and available.

Scott Williams is a free agent soon - not quite as quick anymore but an experienced voice outside two young 10s

For me though Spink should absolutely be stepping up - he just needs to stay fit

Huge admirer of Atkinson's skills but for me he just has not cut it at FB.  For me he is often out of position and has been found to dither and get caught.  I think we need to get him to focus on the 10/12 shirt.  I never have a problem with playing Miller at FB.  Good to hear (I think I did) that Lee is looking for another lock.  Hope Kieran stays.  Anyone know the latest?

Be an interesting selection at 15 next week with Ford launching his spiral bombs.

Think Brookes is long gone, Lol even let it slip in commentary one week. Must be a hold up with Toulon that is keeping the announcement private for now as it is believed we have signed Scholz as his replacement and he has already been released by the Scarlets so no issue announcing him 2 maybe a hold up on Brookes’ medical

Blackett has mentioned 2 locks and a lineout option at 6 to come in.

Given his lack of experience and the bonus of his play going forwards - I'd think he could improve a lot at 15.

Just reading Evans and Fifita at the Canes are
out of contract this year.

Fifita almost came north a few years ago with Exeter so could be tempted again - starting the rumour now - Fifita would be an amazing signing

+1, mentioned them the other day. Evans like another Brad Shields and Fifita is just a powerhouse ball in hand.

Even commentators confused thought Atkinson was Gopperth, maybe he should be at 12.

Spink I think was reported as injured in the last lineup release.

Lot of fans from other clubs thinking we might put 2+2 together and get Ibitoye in from Montpellier as cover for Odogwu.

Makes a lot of sense EPQ and like Odogwu could use a second chance per say as he's fallen off the bandwagon a bit.

Got me confused too ,when they said that last night as I was watching re-run

Ibitoye would be a rather nice shoo-in,  remembering him from a couple of years ago.   Day-dreaming?

He went to Agen but moved to Montpellier mid season but no idea his current status.

So contract has not been extended by Montpellier. Free agent as well so could be a quick win.

Ibitoye is interesting, we were after him while Dai was in charge. He's a talented young player no doubt. Simultaneously, is this signing because we don't trust Sirker defensively yet?

Ibitoye reminds me of a young May. Always said if he could mature in the same way, he'd be a fantastic player, but he needs to stop being a one man band, and become more of a team player. Haven't seen him play since he moved to France though, perhaps he has.

Playing at Agen this season wouldn’t have been fun and a new environment in amongst covid times probably wasn’t much fun either.
Ibitoye offers a lot going forwards on a hard track in an open game but not a lot else (yet) Quins fans will testify to poor defence and game reading

Quins having a clear-out, not many that catch the eye, however, would we be keen on Nathan Earle, if we are after a winger, then if he says fit he would probably fit the bill, unless the lure of the Euro is too great...Elia Elia and Tapuai also leaving.

Isn’t Earle going to France?
Few players leaving there that they’re not getting their money’s worth from - probably would have kept Brown but think there was a fair amount of politics behind the scenes going on with that one

I wouldn't be overly interested in Ibitoye or Earle. I'm happy with Bassett, Watson, Kibirige, Odogwu, Mehson and Crossdale as a crop of wingers. We've also got academy products coming through and Minozzi can play there as well - spend the cash elsewhere.
