Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Kent!
« on: October 24, 2023, 12:17:28 PM »
I know it?s a very personal thing but I can?t see the direct correlation between not being able to attend matches and not following Wasps. I quite understand that the live matchday experience is great but there is a lot around that and, as others have said, there are away games and TV.

+1 people manage to support Premier League football teams from the other side of the world without ever realistically having the chance to see them live. Each to their own though.
Don?t think anyone is saying they are going to stop following wasps if the new ground is in Kent, just that it?s not viable to attend home matches. I know for sure my son will still want the new kits and to go to games at Northampton, Leicester etc. just a shame most of our money will end up funding other clubs

I?m 2017 my son was 8 years old and had never seen a rugby match in his life apart from England on the TV. Then we went to the first match of the season against Exeter and he was totally hooked and became Wasps and rugby obsessed, he joined a local rugby club where he still plays as a aspiring scrum half that combined with a Wasps season ticket and numerous away games meant our weekends became all about rugby. When the club went out business a can?t begin to tell you how devastated the boy was almost to point of tears. For the past year he?s been clinging to the hope they would resurface at some level, he did care how low down the leagues they started he just wanted to watch his beloved Wasps again. We live 15 mins from the CBS Arena so todays news has come like an arrow to his heart. With a younger brother that plays football on a Saturday morning it is just not possible for us to attend home matches also the time and cost just make it impossible. We will still do a few away matches if possible but it just won?t be the same. Apart from him playing rugby and the World Cup we just haven?t had the interest in Rugby that we had. We?re both glad to hear that there is a chance it might all start again and we truely hope if it does that it is successful it?s just with a tinge of sadness that we won?t be involved.

Is there actually a date when you have to declare a squad for the upcoming season? I know everyone keeps saying it takes time to sort these things out but when does it become too late to be ready for next season

Because they’re cheats. Looking at the line ups there is at least 4 internationals on the bench as well. And lo and behold - they’re walking away with the league!
Saw a clip on Facebook the other day showing the top 10 earners in rugby union for 2022 and Saracens had two in there Owen and Mario, the article was quoting there salary in SA Rand but roughly equated to £1.7 million between them. Now that’s a very big chunk of their cap on two players

My son had never watched union before Wasps came to Coventry and was totally devastated when we went into administration, now he’s a starting scrum half for his local U14’s side, a fanatical Wasps fan and just wants to watch play again.

Ok so my son was the happiest person on the planet when the RFU gave the green light for the takeover. Now he’s asking how long before we hear of recruitment and season tickets (he’s only 13 so gets a bit ahead of himself). I know there is still lots of work to do before we see players running out on a pitch but how long can they leave it before they start recruiting? I’m not saying it should be starting now just asking those that know more than me how long can we leave it and still be ready for the 23/24 season. I’d also have thought they would like to get tickets on sale asap

I never really watched club rugby before 2016. In 2016 my 7 year old son wanted to watch a match live so I took him to watch Wasps vs Exeter which I believe was the first home game of the season. So began my sons fanatical obsession with rugby and Wasps. That first season we ended up going to every home game and a final at Twickenham. We have been season tickets holders since and attend many away games. I cannot even begin to describe how devastated he was when Wasps folded and how desperate he is for them to return in some form. We won’t be swapping allegiances to any other club and neither do we bother watching PLR on tv anymore.

I don’t know what to think anymore. Some good stuff and some awful stuff, thought Jack and Charlie were awesome, everyone knows I’m not a Jacob fan but apart from a fluffed high ball in the first few minutes I thought he played well, then his recurring brain fart. Unfortunately he’s starting to look like a red card waiting to happen. All of this has been going on to long now so what is wrong? Is it coaching or are some of the players just not good enough? Interesting conversation with my son on the way home, hypothetically if all Wasps player became available tomorrow and all the other clubs had the money and room in the cap who would have clubs scrabbling for their signature? Willis x2, Atkinson, Robson, Launchbury, Barbeary and maybe Shields can’t think of two many others.

That really was game of two half’s. Can’t be any debate now over who would play at 8, Jack looks like he’s getting back to his best, Nemo you could be forgiven for forgetting just how good he is. I’ve been Jacobs biggest critic in here but I thought he played well tonight, still rubbish under the high balls and other teams will target that, still think he’s 3rd choice fullback. At the minute it’s Porter over Robson for me. Spink growing with every game, Basset looking dangerous again. 5 points and lots of positives, I actually thought it took a lot of balls to hang on and win tonight, don’t get me wrong it should never have been even close but when Bath got on a roll it could have been so easy to collapse and lose. Biggest positive for me was the fact the backs looked dangerous again.

This could set a record for the lowest gate for a wasps home game

However, this game is very likely to be a one full of attacking threat, risky offloads sticking, superb handling and skills, leadership on the pitch, passion, a balanced back row, a solid scrum, fast ball and clear coaching structures in place.
You are talking about the Newcastle team right.

That was bloody awful. It appears, irrespective of personnel, we're carrying on where we left off last season. I think we need a new head coach. And I really wanted Lee to succeed (as in get us to top 4).
+1  when he took over it was a weird time for everyone with Covid-19 and I don’t think anyone can really be judged on that season. He’s had two full seasons and this team is completely his and has been for some time yet on today’s performance we’ve gone backwards. Only question is who is out there that is better and will come

Last season it was injuries causing to many new combinations. This season it’s new combinations again. How long do we keep trotting out the same excuses. For the last two years I’ve heard nothing on here except “when the passes stick and we hit our straps we’ll be a match for anyone”.  Every club has a turn over of player’s but still seem to manage. Make no mistake today we’ve been well beaten by a poor Bristol side and on today’s evidence we’ll hovering around the bottom 4 this season.
