Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Saracens

Personally I can't blame the players at Sarries for the cheating. They were told it was all above board, how were they to know?

Players would have to be incredibly naive to accept being set up as directors of companies outside of the club's books and not understand that something dodgy is going on regards the financial incentives on top of their wages.

Got to be honest - looked like a red to me.

Regardless of whether it was or wasn't contact to head, charging in no-arms like that its still a really silly thing to do.

Had no problem signing pledge. However, if new stadium is in Kent the likelihood of me attending home matches is virtually nil.

Children are more likely to suffer serious injury crossing the street than playing team sports. Let's ban all vehicles.

I see the European Courts declared UEFA's blocking of the proposed football Euro club super league, (or whatever it was going to be called) to be unlawful. Assumedly this means it would be illegal for the RFU or World Rugby to block a new Wasps or Wuss team joining the URC (should such a thing ever happen).

I wonder if they'll be allowed to appeal if drafted to a team they don't want to play for.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: The Future

My nine year old, knowing the season should start soon, asked me yesterday when Wasps will play again. He was disappointed when I had to tell him Wasps may never play again. He replied that there is no-one in the prem for him to support anymore. A whole generation of kids who would have followed Wasps, Wuss and Irish are being lost to the sport.

If he gets a three match ban, think something's very wrong when you can use friendlies to soak them up and take the field again in the very next competitive game. You may as well not impose any ban at all.

No interest at all in PRL. Nor am I particularly excited at the prospect of watching England in the WC. I'll still be down at Moseley on a Saturday afternoon though. Until that is the RFU finally wreck community rugby with restricted funding and new rules that only apply to lower leagues, neatly dividing elite and community rugby in two. Call me bitter.

Agreed, when your investors don't have the RFU or Prem rugby to deal with anymore, but a different body/league (can it be anything but URC?) then maybe they'll be more interested in putting the money in. Ealing we're rumoured to be looking at URC too weren't they?
The Wasps announcement does only say no more RFU after all.

We couldn't muster up the funds to play in the Championship. Any hope of top level rugby has gone. As for an alternative competition (requiring large sums of money to appear out of thin air and RFU approval) - that's just pure fantasy. Wasps died yesterday. Let us rest in peace.

I though PRL clubs were bemoaning the fact that they'd lost out on large sums of money due to two lost home fixtures this season? Now the PRL wants to ensure even fewer fixtures and even bigger losses. Beggars belief really.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: World Rugby proposes belly tackles
« on: March 13, 2023, 01:48:05 PM »
That just is not true. Firstly there very little head on head in the grassroots ruby I watch, and what little there is not from high tackles but dubious ruck clear outs.
Agree with Melie, deal with the issue at the top of the game and let grass roots rugby continue with as little messing around as possible.

Not a single head-on-head all season for my junior side. The reason is simple. At this age group, ball carriers don't hinge at the waist and launch themselves as low as possible into contact like adults do.

Happy to see Smith get the nod ahead of Farrell. I think Smith plays a smarter game.
