Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Rugby Club World Cup format agreed with tournament to start in 2025.

This will just add fuel to the demands for a higher cap to levels most English clubs can't afford which will then either bankrupt clubs that try to match the big spenders or lead to a less competitive Premiership

I don't believe it's ever been that tightly defined. A few years ago at Sandy Park Exeter conceded about 5 scrum penalties in a row. Each time we asked for another scrum. All about 5m out and no cards given.

I'd hate to he a junior member of Saracens' current squad. If their internationals only get the averages quoted then everyone else must be relying on universal credit!

I am absolutely not a fan of Eddie but saw this intriguing video by Squidge.

Maybe just maybe Eddie might possibly not be quite as mad as I thought

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Alfie's season of extremes set to roll into England's tour of Australia.
« on: May 21, 2022, 08:58:27 PM »Tom has been playing at No 8 since 2017, and in the U20s and U22s (not sure if I got the ages right!) where he was also captaining them. He also played at 8 when I sponsored him, I''ve got one of his '8' shirts, and he has a long history of playing 8. It's in Whickapedia (or however it's spelt!) and the Offy site thinggy of Club players. So, yes, he has played 8 before - quite a fair bit.
... Which is what worries me. He's been playing 8 for so long but still hasn't mastered one 9f the key skills of the role.

If Alfie wants to pin down 8 for Wasps and England he's got a lot of work to do on his scrummaging technique. I'm always nervous when I see him trying to control the ball if the scrum is moving or if the opposition 9 is in close.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Bookies Eng squad for the summer.
« on: May 18, 2022, 08:24:15 AM »Wonder what "work-ons" Arundell will be given when he doesn't make the final cut?Increase his speed?
No he's too fast and risks getting isolated if the rest can't keep up.
1. Needs to work on slowing down
2. Needs to work on his kicking because that's the strategy for the whole team
3. Needs to practice wearing gloves because his hands will get cold waiting for a pass from his centres that never comes

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Expectations
« on: May 15, 2022, 05:07:21 PM »I don’t think it’s fair to compare to a time when we could field Gopperth, Daly, Wade, Le Roux, Beale etc. Individual opinion again but I’d rather see a team including [...] players we’ve produced ourselves - develop over time than the constant stream of very talented mercenary type signings.
I agree that I'd much rather see talent that's grown up with Wasps' culture but to show my age I'll list... Waters, Abbott, Lewsey, Van Gizbergen, Cipriani, Daly, Wade, and our two greatest wingers of all time Shaw and Leota.

I agree.
My definition of success next season ...
Qualifying for the knockout stages of European Cup
Comfortably in the Premiership top 6 and fighting for top 4
Regaining a reputation that teams fear us rather than expect to come away with 5 points
Stop the brain darts and prove we can play for 80 minutes week in week out
