Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Paolo Wade Comparison
« on: January 14, 2022, 12:00:45 PM »
Definitely get a bit of that buzz when he gets the ball, but big shoes to fill.

Exactly

He's certainly a "busy" player
It always seems to look and feel like there's a lot about to happen when he's involved.

But Wade's record stands alone.

I'd prefer Odogwu to become the best possible version of Poalo Odogwu, rather than trying to mimic Wadey

Completely agree.

Paolo doesn't have Wade-like pace so would be better off focusing on himself and his own playing style rather than looking to emulate others.

At the risk of playing "my injury list is worse than yours" what's the general opinion on Bath injury quality? It looks like we have similar numbers injured but gut feel is we've lost more first XV players. Is that correct?

Watson, Joe C, Redpath, Obano, Stuart, De Glanville, Spencer, Underhill, Stuart, Ewels, Spencer, maybe Faletau and Bayliss.

They're missing a lot of first teamers.

I think I saw that Muir was doubtful with a soft tissue injury too Raggs?

Is he first team for them now? I thought he was mostly in because of injuries to others :D. Could very much be wrong though.

I was under the impression that Muir was currently favoured over Ruaridh McConnochie but I too could be wrong?

This is a huge loss for next season which I don't think should be underestimated. He's a special player.

+1

Although Umaga needs to improve the kicking element of his game from the tee -and this will keep him out of the England reckoning for the AIs- His ability under the high ball, his distribution, the willingless to take it to the line and into contact -which makes him a constant threat to defences- and his game management is right up there for such a young man! He will only get better, and when you play at the level he does it is the little things that make the biggest difference.

It's not just Jacob's kicking that will keep him out of England reckoning at the moment - the fact that on current form a certain Marcus Smith trumps Jacob in almost every facet of the game (defence and attack) means a return back to the England fold is someway off.

TRP (Page 18) - "Sirker's debut double gets Pirates on front foot"

Looks like former Wasps winger Callum Sirker scored on debut in the Championship opener for Cornish Pirates' 33-18 win against Richmond.

I’m pleased to hear Ryan is recovering. Good news .

Good news indeed!

Hopefully Ryan will be able to make an immediate impact when he's fully fit and we can start to see a return on our investment.

Ex-Wasps winger Callum Sirker also in TRP for scoring on debut for the Cornish Pirates.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: New kit incoming?

I like the gold "honeycomb" trim. At least in the studio lighting it looks very good. It'll probably get lost on TV wide shots during games but that's okay as Wasps traditionally played in mostly black shirts.

I also like the look of the new logo on the shirts. I had no strong feelings either way when it was announced but then absolutely hate the look of it with the yellow background the club use on their Twitter account. But now I like it on the shirt! Strange isn't it!

Wait, does it say "Wright Hassall" on the upper chest area? As in, "It's a Wright Hassall going all the way to Coventry to watch Wasps!"  ;D

I think I like the new kit - simple and understated!

If the match day shirts follow the same theme as the training kit I've seen pictured then I'm slightly concerned the markings resemble tiger stripes!!  :-[

Not really my "thing" but I'll certainly give it a go to support the lads and their enterprise!  ;D

It’s difficult to envisage Jacob getting any game time in an England shirt at his chosen position in the forthcoming Canada fixture. I think Marcus’ performance on Sunday was solid enough to buy him more time in the ‘10’ shirt which will be to Jacob’s detriment (let’s face it, EJ doesn’t need much of an excuse when it comes to giving Wasps’ players a start!!)

Depends entirely on what Eddie hopes to achieve from these tests (realistically was never going to learn a great deal in any case playing fringe players against tier 2 opposition).  He's had a look at Randall and Smith amongst others.  Box ticked.  Now does he make sweeping changes to give the rest of the squad a crack or does he want to see more of those that were used against the US?

The very least Robson deserves is a start at 9.  He's only ever been given scraps off the bench behind Youngs, then yesterday when he might have expected a longer go at it he ends up on the wing proving absolutely nothing.

This is Eddie, so if I was a betting man I'd not be parting with a penny second guessing his thought process.

It’s my impression that EJ sees friendlies as an opportunity to affirm his own thought process and not an opportunity to test / change it.
