Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Robson
« on: February 11, 2019, 03:26:32 PM »
I thought he was brilliant and did exactly what EJ would have wanted. Wasn’t flashy, provided the quick ball were all used to, had a brilliant chase and tackle to win a pen. I think we’ll see him start against Italy, and be given more game time now this first cap is out of the way

+1

I definitely agree with you AK.

Given that he has this 6N and the RWC to go through before he has to choose whether to go back to Wales or not, I'd like to think he will have a pretty good idea as to where he stands in regards to selection. It's tough competition in the back row for the Welsh (and has been for years) but I think he's a very competent player. So we will see I suppose.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Is Dai the right man to lead the club?
« on: February 11, 2019, 03:13:32 PM »
I suppose I cannot comment too much on the topic, as I am still a relatively new fan, but in the past two seasons I have had a positive impression of Dai and will be more than happy to see him stay. To me, in my biased opinion, is that he comes across as one of the few "good guys" that are at the top of their clubs, compared to the likes of Steve Diamond.

I couldn't fault YY if he chooses to move on. Can't blame the lad for moving back to Wales to further his international career, if that's what he wants.

I must say, I have noticed this season that he is the one who's stuck his neck out in regards to rumours (whether that be players/training ground etc etc). He seems to do more on that front than many of the other DoRs

They've definitely come up with some impressive signing/re-signing announcements, which a few other clubs have tried to emulate (including us)

Very pleased with this! I was so very close to missing his try against Saints last time out at the Ricoh! Definitely a stand-out moment for me this season.

If it is JdJ that is re-signing it will certainly make the contract story one to watch

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Dai on Elliot's switch to Saracens
« on: February 08, 2019, 10:49:45 AM »
I suppose the sticking point is the manner in which all of this was carried out. I am sure had Elliot saw his contract through rather than triggering a release clause, a lot of fans would be a bit more forgiving if he had still moved on afterwards.
I appreciate Elliot's statement but I struggle to see where the challenge is (disregarding the usual "different environment/way of working etc etc").

That's pretty pointed for Dai.

Yes, quite!

I think there must be some unhappy bunnies in the Wasps camp at the way things have played out as well as us fans.

Coaching hopefully.

Rugbyinsideline also claims that a player is backing out of a signed contract, but it's dangerous to say who/clubs involved, due to the characters involved.

I've just seen this. I'd find it mildly amusing if it was ED but I've heard it's potentially JCW from what's been said on DW and Twitter.

I doubt I will be able to make it, as it's a weekday, which is a shame. I was hoping to use the opportunity to also get a few more of the players to sign my Wasps rugby ball - it's a bit of a project of mine. I'm hoping to put it in a presentation box and display it in my house  :)

... The pitch will be better next year with no round ball on it.

Talking of which, I read somewhere that CCFC have not been paying their rent? I wonder if this is true?

Surely this would mean that CCFC's argument for further legal action is reduced if this is the game they're playing now?

This is probably the last year that players are able to make a significant jump in salary - As within a season, almost all clubs will be operating at the cap so will make wiggle room a lot more difficult.

That’s why we’re seeing reasonably big money moves to clubs like Gloucester, Sale and Bristol who haven’t otherwise operated at the cap now being able to offer significant increases.

So it’s almost a now or never (within reason) move for most.  I think we’ll see things far more settled in the future with an emphasis and importance put on academies for all the teams.  I think a lot of clubs would be sensible to invest CVC money in that.

We certainly would be.

+1 for academies.

I'm not really sure what to make of the CVC investment, in all honesty. I am in full agreement with all comments made previously to mine. I am also worried that this increased financial support is used incorrectly and we see more money being thrown around resulting in very large wages rather than infrastructure investment and a more football-esque sport.
