Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Possible news?

Malta does not recognise UK insolvency laws, I think. I found this out during the pandemic when our wedding venue owner did a runner with all the money, folded his hotel business, then sold the property to a new one he'd incorporated in Malta, for a few hundred quid.

This is so much nearer for me (West London) that actually being able to get to a Wasps game in a little over 90mins is a huge relief.

Coventry cut me off from the club in a lot of ways, as I was unwilling to spend the min. 7 hrs travel to get to a home game, and back again.

As a result, I totally sympathise with anyone who now feels that the reborn club will be too far for them to follow in person. Hopefully see some of you at away games where possible.

Equally, this is a very bold plan, and I would not be too shocked if it changes drastically between now and actual realisation. Wasps aren't back. Yet. But the intent does seem to be there, and the right noises are being made.

Have heard one rumour suggesting the new structure will feature a relegation playoff between the bottom team in Prem 2 (Rebranded Championship) and top team from Nat 1.

Not heard owt about movement between Prem 1 and 2 though.

Yeah, at that point I'd be done.

Solihull is quite a distance for me by rail, but doesn't feel like we're jumping in another club's grave. Do not see how we'd get any attendance, or even income, over on Warriors' patch.

London Scottish were looking to move and had arranged to groundshare with Esher from 2021/22 whilst it developed a ground of it's own. They changed their mind in February 2021 about moving to Esher and continue to play at the RAG in the meantime. No word on whether they still plan to move.
Ahhhh, bugger.

Call me mad, but last I heard was that London Scottish were looking to move on from the RAG. That leaves Richmond short a tenant.

Wasps could do a lot worse than setting up shop there. Yes it's the pain of being a tenant again, but realistically there is no magic empty plot that can become a rugby ground. The extra money at the RAG could help towards getting the main stand redeveloped and/or building a 2nd one.

I remember how Irish acted when Richmond came unstuck many years ago. The only way I'd want to see a merger would be with us as the main focus, not them. Don't know how we can buy them and imprint our brand on theirs though.

Speaking as a female I would prefer little or preferably no interaction with a club that took on Paddy Jackson.

I'm not female, but that always left a bit of a sour taste for me as well.

Hearing there are increasing concerns about two more Prem clubs financial situation.

If TPTB step in, surely they'd have to step in for all of those affected? Might be some hope. Of what, I'm not sure yet.

I feel like we've been here before, only this time it feels more inevitable.

It's disappointing that the sport as whole isn't trying to help, but with an eye on making the Prem a closed shop and marketed as "elite" there's only too many clubs more than happy to see a competitor fall into peril if it means they can survive.

If we lose our P shares we will never get back in. Never. We will be a Championship club at best, and a homeless one at that.

Sorry for being a downer, I'm just finding it hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel right now.

Is it a Top 4 team, or a team chasing the Top 4? If the latter then I'd be worried it could be us, given how we offloaded players like Ash and Carr, who would have been on hefty contracts.

Relieved?

That is either a very poor choice of verb, or it means he wasn't inclined to consent to this change. It suggests it was imposed by the owner rather than requested by Dai. Otherwise, it would have read something more neutral.

Dai Young is taking a step back ... not Dai has decided (for xxx reasons) to focus on management to to hand over first team duties to ....

The whole tone comes over as non-consensual on Dai's part.

This struck me as odd, too. Supposedly he had a meeting at the Ricoh yesterday, prior to the weekly press conf, but then didn't attend the press conf. Wonder if an idea about his position, and changes to it, was put to him and he wasn't happy, so this forced the club's hand?
