Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Sarries and the Cap
« on: March 06, 2019, 10:13:36 PM »
Do the numbers really add up and provide Saracens the advantage that everyone assumes they have?

The Mail found companies for Wigglesworth, the vunipola brothers and recently, Farrell.

Whatever dividend they may or may not be pulling out of their companies and whatever noted asset they may be left with permanently afterwards, does it really add up to such a huge number to give Saracens their advantage

Obviously, any advantage is useful.
But if the players are pulling even a £50k dividend per year, that can presumably mean they're being officially underpaid by that £50k. Across the 4 players, that would equate to half a Daly (roughly)

There's got to be more to this.
Either other players have these agreements and they just haven't been found yet
Or, as someone has already suggested, these are the ones that people are meant to find
... Or, it's not as bad as people are making out.... That being said, there's a hell of a lot of smoke now

Erm yes, its simples

Firstly no other club can compete to sign Sarries players.
No other club can retain their own players against a Sarries offer.
Sarries can build strength in depth no other club can compete with.

The roster they have had over the years is ridiculous.

And dont kid yourself there is 50k here and there, property investment is prob just the tip of it and over long term, it'll be big enough.

I think Stuart has flattered to deceive given the hype. Decent bits in the loose but some poor decision making and scrummaging is ok, also just doesn't seem with it...seems vague.

Alo has trimmed down alot, which shows a good work ethic..fingers crossed.

I don't feel that Watson has done enough for us during his period with us. You can't do anything about injuries but I think Dai is implying that perhaps Watson isn't looking after himself (mid-week, pre game) as much as a pro sportsman should be.

I dont read that at all. He's had an achillies and groin issue, not sure there's much to be done to circumvent that.

If there is a grey area and they are exploiting it then it is what it is, but for their fan's to go on every board and proclaim players are desperate to join them for pay cut's just because they are Sarries is utter pants.

Providing subsidised housing or housing loans or investments on property then sold at a later date for gains with players as stakeholders...while offering Daly 100k a year is BS and nothing to do with career furtherment, its allowing cap room for bringing in yet more Intl players. Having an owner worth 315m which can facilitate this beyond every other club isn't a fair playing field. All of these appear setup/closed on contract start and end...what does that say.

We all know you can't have the roster they have had over the years by any other means other than subsidization...I have no sympathy for them and will say what I want on the matter, bitter sounding or not.

Interesting isn't it, Bassett wouldn't have scored either of those tries. The break was only bettered by the finish...amazing.

I'm on the fence, I wish he had the opportunity to be judged on a decent run of games but he hasn't, when he has played he's looked rusty...which is understandable but hard for the guy.

Its a risk..he has a USP for sure, create space for him and he'll prob create something....it's just the fitness thing. That said, we re-signed Mcintyre who isn't far from being a PJD #2.

I wouldn't be upset if he re-signed. but Dai's words don't sound promising in that regard.

He's meant to be an utter plum from what I have read..can't substantiate that.

He is on the pitch so wouldn't surprise me if he is off it.

Thats hilarious!!

I watched his game this weekend where the lineout was so crooked the guy could barely catch it with his outside hand and Doyle didn't notice, it took the linesman to have a word and halt play.

Never used to be but now comfortably one of the worst..the guy has partial vision, he misses so much its borderline comedic.

not what I was hoping for.

Strange statements..

Isnt this Dai bringing in the next best player....who is being developed elsewhere at a higher level than the academy to learn the systems and potentially be in the mix next season full time?

I wouldn't be the world of Rugby if there wasn't a Wasps article published somewhere. This is now up on Rugbypass...nothing new.

Have to admit, I suspect that people are so desperate for Lima to succeed and for the real Lima to step up that I fear they are clutching at straws.
It seems especially harsh that Hampson gets slaughtered by people here and on DW whenever he puts the shirt on and yet Lima has delivered Hampson quality performances time and time again this year. If a championship signing had performed as Lima has for much of this year he would have had the hot coals treatment.
Perhaps it is ok to lambast the third choice scrum half, perhaps not. Like most I believe you win and lose as a team, but if you are going to discuss individuals then a bit of consistency is needed. I certainly think Limas' name, and good guy reputation and the desire to not crticise Dai indirectly have insulated him from attack from many,  as has his late start and the injury list. Poor old Hampson has none of those excuses despite playing in the same disrupted backline low on confidence, just like Lima, and frankly has been about as effective in his position as Lima has in his. It is probably true that some have gone the other way, totally ott in blaming Lima, but for my money some equally dismissive ott comments have been made about Miller, Hampson and other second or third choices.

Now in terms of contract renewal it is fair to say "I think x does not offer enough", but on the match threads I think there is a tendency, more there than here, to single out players for good and ill, and to exaggerate their games. I have probably done it myself, especially in laudation, but it is something I would like to do less of on the various match threads.

Which thread are you referring to, i can't find it...and I dont recall seeing anything of that nature here.
