Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Exeter Owner on Government Loans

Out of interest...if the RFU were to give Exeter or some of the others some leeway to avoid relegation, where would that leave us and Wuss?  What redress would be available?  Who would pursue it?  I guess that could become very costly, and may mean the RFU simply cannot step in to help anyone else?  Oh what a mess!

I wonder if there is any reason why the RFU has to have sole jurisdiction?  The RFL have teams from across the globe playing in their leagues, so why not Union?

There was an interesting comment on 5 Live this morning. O'Toole was being interviewed and he said that he was determined to bring elite level rugby back to Sixways with or without the RFU.  I have been wondering what that meant all morning. I am wondering if I misheard...could they be looking at the UC or France?

Aside from being financially unsustainable the Gallagher Premiership is stale, repetitive and uninteresting.

Sorry, can't agree with that. Pretty much any team can beat any other. Games are close & actually would be very exciting if I had anything other than a passing interest in the results.
Those supporters of the remaining 11 teams should be having a pretty good time!

Except that Saracens with their financial doping will win it at a canter.

My point is..the Cheats have been exposed as cheating once, strongly suspected once and yet they still fill their squad with more British Lions than Scotland do under a reduced salary cap.  The players know what Sarracens are before they sign.  They cheat, and players go into that environment knowingly.

The comparison with Wasps doesn't work.  Wasps were in financial difficulty, but most clubs are, so it is a risk either way and traditionally sports clubs at this level (mainly football clubs admittedly) find a rescue package from somewhere.  So, yes it is a risk, but no significantly different from signing for most clubs.

If the players are so gullible that they can't see that the Cheats are still cheating, then I'm a Nigerian Prince looking to give them £40m (for a small cost to cover my admin obviously).  I have no sympathy with any player joining that club, they know what they are getting into.

Not sure anyone has disputed that in any way at all. Being pleased for Willis but frustrated that a team like Saracens get the benefit of him are not mutually exclusive.

I would qualify that though...being pleased for Willis is contingent on this being within the Salary Cap rules.  If not, he is colluding, and after the last time I don't think players can plead ignorance anymore.  I struggle to see how the Cheats can have so many internationals on their books and be within the cap.

CHRIS FOY in The Daily Mail:
Owen Farrell's four-week ban proves rugby's judicial system is not fit for purpose and needs reforming - the reduction of weeks for good conduct and admission of guilt is a joke and an outdated relic of the amateur era

He's not wrong. I hadn't seen the bit in the ruling that said it had no effect on the match, it very obviously did!

The time off for good behaviour, references from chariteeees, admitting they had done it and saying sorry, even through gritted teeth, is completely farcical. Also getting a week off for tackle school, again I agree with Chris Foy, that should be part of their punishmant anyway.
Since when did that become a thing? I thought rugby was all about player safety?

It's just part of the contortions they needed to do to manipulate the outcome to give it the veneer of legitimacy.  This is nothing less than cheating.

From an article in The Telegraph about the Farrell ban:

.....  So how it can be argued that he thought it was a fair tackle seems nuts...
Easy - 1.  He is Owen Feral and so has a cloak of invisibility that protects him against sanction
2.  He plays for the cheats and therefore not subject to the same rules, regulations and arguments that apply to other teams
3.  Most importantly, Borthwick wants him in the England team.

Thanks to the corrupt RFU he was always going to be let off.  I hope that those bringing the lawsuits against the RFU use these decisions to show that head injuries are of little consequence when placed against the need for the Cheats and England to have a player available.

....

But since he plays for you-know-who he'll probably get off with a verbal apology through gritted teeth and a pat on the back.

Why should the RFU apologise to OF, through gritted teeth or otherwise?
