If that deal goes ahead, I can't help but think that will be the death of 'popular' TV/online/streaming viewing of rugby union in England. Rugby Union needs the money, I know, but it also needs supporters. Very short term gain, long term loss.
Just look at how F1 has declined in viewership under the stewardship of Sky (for that matter any sport).
The fact is, Sky and BT have lost the battle to Netflix and Amazon for the viewing of quality content. Sport was seen as a way to entice viewers to subscribe. It didn't turn out that way. I can see both Sky and BT offloading their sport commitments/channels to sports specialist channels like DAZN and ESPN, et al.
I do not buy in to the buy it all monthly sales pitch. Like many other supporters, I have no interest in other sports, and I have no interest in paying for them.
What England Rugby do not realise is, many watchers of the game will simply stop watching. I would rather go watch school rugby in Warwick
