Wasn’t so long ago we were in a final and had our maul cynically brought down when it was moving fast to the line with a couple of minutes to go. The player that brought it down stole the resultant line out penalty when he should have been in the bin and we lost. Defo need consistency!

I wonder if we'll be able to give Fifita a go at 6?

LAW 10: FOUL PLAY

10.1 Foul Play is anything a person does within the playing enclosure that is against the letter and spirit of the Laws of the Game. It includes obstruction, unfair play, repeated infringements, dangerous play, throwing away a tag, deliberate contact and misconduct which is prejudicial to the game.

Pulling down a maul is an act of foul play.  No debate there.  What's unclear is whether 2 acts of technical foul play meriting 2 yellow cards in a single game amount to a subsequent ban for the resulting red card.  It seems harsh, given that no act or serious foul play took place, much less anything reckless or dangerous.  The offences were both cynical with the intent of denying Bristol a try scoring opportunity, so Bristol benefitted in playing nearly a quarter of that game with a man advantage.  That seems fair enough to me.  No reason why Falcons should benefit.

Conjecture at the minute but has anybody heard if he has actually been cited/ordered to appear before the beak? I thought if it was going to happen it would have been announced by now or have I missed something?

Skipper has been cleared!

“Wasps initially feared they would lose their captain to a one-game ban, but a disciplinary deemed that the sending off was sufficient punishment, and Shields is free to play against Newcastle Falcons this weekend.”

Some big calls to make in that back row for Saturday now.  Brad cleared, Young and Carr available, T Willis undroppable (IMO) on the back of last weekend, Fifita presumably continuing in 2nd row.  Can't imagine Oghre will play 7 again this week ahead of some of those.

Centre will be interesting too.  Gopperth needs protecting to ensure we have cover for Umaga, so do we risk him at 12 with Booj 13 (worked well enough vs Bris), or does one of the youngsters get a start?  Personally I'd be delighted to see Spink given a shot.

All depends on Tom's hamstring tweak.

If Willis fit : Shields 6, Young 7, Willis 8, Carr bench.
If not Carr to 8 and Morris bench.

Centres wise I think it will be Le Bourgeois and Spink (if he's fit).

Gopperth on bench covering 12 and 10.

Interesting sum up by the judge.

Considering the way first one seemed to break up before going down can see Brads point. Would have been most refs decision to be just a penalty, with maybe a warning re if it happened again or accumulation.
