Match thread - Exeter away
« on: November 30, 2019, 03:39:54 PM »
Not going great at the moment, but far from one sided.

Scrum is a lottery. 2 seemingly identical scrums showed in close up and slow motion, resulting in one penalty each way.

Willisx2 doing well at the breakdown... Jack been unlucky a couple of times already on debatable decisions

I'm changing my mind on our fly half options.
I'm beginning to think that we need to build our back line and attacking plays around young Jacob.

He's certainly not the finished article, but there's so much ability there already and a lot of potential still to realise.

Crucially, he can create opportunities in his own, which is a trait that we require

HT score. 10-3. Rowlands off with knee injury.

We've had quite a few chances but have not managed to get over the Exe line.

It shouldn't be a lottery though as Moon is in at the angle most scrums. Just as we start to build momentum either a questionable decision or lack of decision making kills us. Booj showed lack of nouse with the no look pass 5 meters out, just go to ground and recycle, might have been 7 on the board. The not straigh against Cruise was madness.
Overall though we are with Ex with the difference being the one try. If we can keep them in their half then we are in this.
Jacob created that break with his at the line offload, not many chances to show his mettle but stuff like that enforces his selection.

Weathered the storm early and dominated the last twenty or so. But, for me, the problem of our season so far dominated - we need to be more clinical. We should have had at least two tries. But we're playing well, matching them and are far from out of it - we've just got to start taking our chances.

Moon has got lucky, but Brookes has been boring in recently, it was right to ping him in the last one for sure. Neither of them have been on good behaviour as such.

It's an away game at sandy park, I'm not expecting anything, but what we've shown has been very encouraging.

Worried about our lock stocks though.

There's quite a wind at Sandy Park (now there's a surprise) and we are playing into it in the second half. Could make clearances awkward.

The last scrum Brookes lost his bind. No arguments there.

2 earlier ones start with good binds from both props. Arguably Brookes is pulling down in both, Moon goes to ground in both.
1st one results in penalty to Exeter, 2nd is a penalty to us.
Both looked identical to me

For me Raggs Brookes is square until Moon can't take the pressure and his right should goes in, taking Bookes with him...
anyway, 2nd half, more of the same with a dose of composure please...

Thats annoying, another pushover.
Probably game over, now we have to make sure we don't let this game slide away..
That Umaga kick out won't help.

24-3, scrum mullered on the line.
Game of 2 halves, getting smashed this half, in the set piece anyway
