What team will we see on Tuesday?
« on: March 27, 2022, 05:21:55 PM »
Tuesday night is an intriguing one. I can’t imagine any of those involved yesterday will play. I’m thinking:
Nearchou Van Vuuren JTA
Cardall Vukasinovic
Fifita Carr Morris
Wolstenholme
Miller
Le Bourgeois Spink
Hougaard Crossdale Watson

Harris Frost Scholtz
Brown Curran
Porter Mehson Mills?

Are Simmonds/Hartley fit and available?

Think we need to give game time to our 12's to work out who we stick with.  We all agree that MLB isn't our first choice option.   Odendaal in theory will be first-choice, but we never know what state we get our Southern Hemisphere players in when they first come over.

Would be good to begin to flesh out who is second in line.

What a situation to be in - a few weeks ago we hardly had enough players available to make up one team, now we have enough to put out two teams in one week!

We should put out the strongest team available given we have a game on Saturday.  Build some confidence in a squad that looks to lack any.  We need some success no matter how small and players could use this game to build their understanding of their team mates.  Usually I would say rest the first team but we are going to finish 9th in the Prem, Bristol at 10th is still some way behind so lets try and use the game to build team spirit and confidence.

Nearchou is not ready. I think Atkinson will get game time.

They played some of the best rugby we’ve seen for some time when they were playing two games a week and not training  so it’s worth a try.

From BB live this morning.

Who could feature?
So Lee Blackett's comments suggest that anyone involved on Saturday will not feature on Tuesday.

Who does that leave from those who are fit and available (to the best of our knowledge) from the senior squad? Bear in mind, however, Wasps have a Gallagher Premiership game on Saturday against Gloucester. Players who feature on Tuesday are unlikely to be involved at Kingsholm.

Here's who Wasps could be picking from...

Cameron Anderson
Tim Cardall
Charlie Atkinson
Nizaam Carr
Ali Crossdale
Kieran Curran
Ben Harris
Francois Hougaard
Michael Le Bourgeois
Ryan Mills
Luke Mehson
Rob Miller
Matteo Minozzi
Ben Morris
Pieter Scholtz
Will Simonds
Jeff Toomaga-Allen
Theo Vukasinovic
Sam Wolstenholme

What the boss had to say
After Saturday's win over Newcastle Falcons at the Coventry Building Society Arena, we spoke to head coach Lee Blackett about Tuesday night's Premiership Cup game against Saracens...

The boys trained today [Saturday]. So realistically if you're not involved in this [v Newcastle] you'll be involved in that [Saracens]. Unless we pick up a couple of injuries then we hold a couple back. They trained separately. Their Monday and Tuesday will look a bit different with them playing Tuesday night. It'll be just a team run for them, whereas the other guys will come back in as normal. It'll affect our training, definitely, next week.

But the thing for us is, there's a confidence in getting results here, we're building some great momentum at home after six wins on the bounce.

Who's idiotic idea was it to have midweek fixtures? This was tried in the early days of professionalism, with an aim of emulating football. It was scrapped as a stupid idea when it became obvious that playing 3 games in 7 days was a genius way of knackering players at best and injuring them at worst.

It's the Premiership Cup, so has been shoe horned in.
