England U20s Summer Squad

Congratulations to Archie McArthur, Rekeiti Ma’asi-White and Greg Fisilau for their selection.

Surprised not seeing Kofi Cripps in there but seem to remember him being injured and needing surgery near the end of the season. Very surprised not seeing Alfie Bell in there after how much he featured in the 6 nations so potentially injured too.

I went to the Ireland game in March and England were very poor.
Ireland looked like 'young Leinster' i.e. they all knew exactly what they were doing in every situation, and looked like they had played together since they were weaned.

That's the way it's works in Dublin. A very good friend of mine knows their system well. From a very early age, any lad with potential is  'streamed' into the Leinster feeder programme. Through school, college right the way through to their development squads.

And as a bonus, they all are well versed in the skills of Gaelic football.

Watched it and the score is quite flattering.
The second match with France  v Ireland shows the French have similar training through the levels.

Just watched it back. Considering SA haven’t played this year they looked far more organised and well drilled compared to us.
The problem for us is that Dickens used so many players during the 6 nations but none of the combinations seemed to be used against SA at all yesterday so there doesn’t seem to be any progression.

The baby Boks generally out powered us upfront and out skilled and paced us in the backs. At least three kicks out on the full for us, a few sloppy turnovers (rips etc) and a poorly functioning lineout meant England never really got going.
SA left a lot of points out there from the tee and had two disallowed tries, we had one with Ma’asi-white giving a forward pass when he really shouldn’t have, he played pretty well though in the 12 shirt but him and Grayson often changed around.
Fisilau tackled well but still not sure he’s an 8 and was up against a very physical SA back row.

Big names like Fin Smith, Ilione and Grayson didn’t really control the game where as the SA 9,10 and back three definitely did.
Lots to work on for Dickens, lineout needs to be a quick fix, basics need to be improved as well as a few combinations lacking at the moment.

Lineouts for England were very poor, scrums were worse. Backs were lacklustre. Boks were good and well organised.
