Breaking

So we're learning that the operating company that runs the CBS Arena, ACL, looks likely to avoid going into administration, as a new notice of intention to appoint administrators was filed today. This will give them 10 days of grace to get their house in order.

Wasps Holdings Limited opted for a similar approach on two occasions but it is expected that administration for the rugby element of the business will be confirmed today.

Which suggests that the non-rugby side of the business is likely to find a buyer.

Andrew Sheridan and Rajnesh Mittal of FRP were appointed as Administrators of Wasps Holdings Limited (“Wasps”) 17 October 2022.

Please note that Arena Coventry Limited and IEC Experience Limited, which operate the businesses at arena in Coventry, are not in Administration and continue to trade as normal.

What does ‘in Administration’ mean?

Administration is a formal UK insolvency procedure that is available to a company that is insolvent. The procedure involves placing the company under the control of insolvency practitioners and the protection of the UK courts.

Administration includes a moratorium which applies for the period of time in which the company is in administration. This stops any legal action or process against a company from proceeding, unless the Administrators or the English Court give permission.

What does the administration mean for Wasps season ticket and match ticket holders?

Unfortunately all future Wasps matches are currently cancelled and therefore match tickets, season tickets and hospitality packages cannot be honoured.  Wasps is unable to provide any refunds.

If you paid by credit or debit card, you may be able to get your money back by claiming a refund from your card issuer.  Please contact your card issuer as soon as you can if this may apply to you.  Further information including on time limits that apply is available from UK Finance.

If you are unable to claim a refund from a card provider you can register a claim against Wasps. Details of how to register a claim will be provided to ticket holders. Registering a claim in this way does not necessarily mean that you will receive any payment.  That will be determined at a later date and you will be contacted again if there is any prospect of a payment.

Will events still happen at the Arena in Coventry?

The only events which are cancelled as the result of the administration are Wasps matches.  The administration of Wasps does not impact:

Coventry City FC ticket holders and hospitality packages
Rugby League World Cup ticket holders and hospitality packages
    Conference and event bookings
    Hotel bookings
    Music event ticket holders

What will happen to merchandise orders from the club shop and website?

The club store (at the CBS Arena and online) is not impacted by the administration of Wasps.

I am a Wasps bondholder, what does the administration mean for me?

A separate link for bondholder questions can be found here.

Do I need to use a third party to get my money back?

No. Any claims against Wasps or card issuers can be made directly by you.

How can I contact the Joint Administrators?

The Administrators are unable to deal with calls from individual ticket holders. All available information will be provided on this web page and creditors of Wasps will be provided the access details for a creditors portal.

Any queries relating to Wasps including Wasps Mens, Wasps Ladies, Wasps Netball, and the respective Academies and Pathways activities should be directed to the Joint Administrators via wasps@frpadvisory.com.

I'll be staying away from social media as best as I can for the time being in that case.

Absolutely heartbroken. Not just for myself but for all players, staff, fans and their families.

It's only when reading that, and it beginning to sink in, that I realise quite how much this means.  I'm beyond gutted.

Full statement

Andrew Sheridan and Raj Mittal, partners at specialist business advisory firm FRP, have today (17th October) been appointed as Joint Administrators of Wasps Holdings Limited, the holding company for Wasps Men, Wasps Ladies, Wasps Netball, the associated coaching and support teams, and the respective Academies and Pathways. The company has ceased trading with immediate effect.

Regrettably, upon appointment the Joint Administrators were required to make 167 employees redundant, including all members of the playing squads and coaching staff. A small number of employees have been retained to support with the orderly wind down of the company and the operation of the CBS Arena, which is unaffected by this administration and continues to trade as normal.

Andrew Sheridan, Joint Administrator, said: “This is a dark day for English rugby, and we know this will be devastating news for every Wasps player and member of staff, past players, sponsors, and their thousands of supporters throughout the world, and anyone who has ever been involved with this great club.

“Our immediate focus is on supporting those who have lost their jobs this morning. This will be an incredibly challenging time for every individual, and we will be assisting them in making claims to the redundancy payments service.

“The board and many others across the club have worked tirelessly over the last few weeks to try and find a solution that would allow the club to move forward, and it is with great regret that there has been insufficient time to allow this to happen. However, we remain in ongoing discussions with interested parties and are confident that a deal will be secured that will allow Wasps to continue.

“We would like to thank the RFU and PRL for their support to date and we continue to engage closely with them as negotiations with interested parties continue. Of course, time remains of the essence, and we will be doing everything in our power to progress discussions with interested parties as quickly as possible, while fulfilling our statutory duties as administrators. This will include discussions with Wasps FC, the amateur club aligned to the Wasps Women team to explore options that may allow the Wasps Women team to continue playing. Despite the challenging and complex environment, we have been heartened by the supportive approach taken by all stakeholders to date and are confident that this will continue now that the business is in administration, with all focused on securing an outcome that is in the best interests of rugby and the wider community.”

Anyone know who the Directors are for the remaining Companies? Will be quite angry if there has been a slight of hand that has killed off Wasps.

ACL have Nick Eastwood, Derek Richardson, and Jacquelyn Issac listed as directors.  What are the other companies?

So... What happens now?

I'd imagine it's a given now that we will see the reports of all of our players move to other clubs.

I suppose we may hear rumours of potential buyers and what happens to our P share, but I imagine we won't hear much else until the administrators have completed their work and the club has either folded or been bought out?
