Wasps Rugby Discussion / Defending maul
« on: September 11, 2018, 09:50:33 AM »
Good section in Flats and Shanks podcast about defending a maul. Basically, Flats saying it is more about separating players than pushing, all the people around the sides are just helping the attacking team create a tighter maul. As a rugby newby, I found it interesting.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Team for Exeter and game
« on: September 07, 2018, 11:20:20 AM »
Got a bit twitchy in expectation so started this thread a bit early. From Cov Tel article it looks like Dai has made a big call keeping and backing Billy to start, but makes sense, he will be quicker and better this week, Lima will be jet lagged and not up to speed. Rob needs to set his stall, make the catches and tackles then pick his chances. If Dan, Billy and Rob nail it and if the forwards can keep organised then we will give Chiefs a game.

There is no disgrace getting beaten by Chiefs, but let's hope Wasps can take the game to them, take a few risks and add a win to our reasonable win /loss home record against them at Ricoh. How I'd love to see Wasps stop the Exeter love in for one day at least!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Team for Worcester

Getting excited about tomorrow's team news and looking forward to seeing who Dai chooses with all of the absentees.

Some interesting choices for Dai, in particular wondering what he will do about fly half now that Jimmy is injured. He could go for tried and tested with Rob but that impacts 15, or will he pick new (to us) Billy. Picking Miller seems like the sort of approach Dai would take, except that if he moves Miller then there is also decision to make about full back.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Club shop 1st Aug
« on: July 27, 2018, 11:59:19 AM »
Going to go for the shop open day on the 1st Aug. Looking forward to seeing the new players shirt, but personally more keen to see what the supporters shirts will be like this year, got quite a few buz points stashed away!

If the colours schemes are anything to go by then we will swing from black to gold for the playing top.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Ash & JCW?
« on: June 29, 2018, 07:29:39 AM »
Just a place for rumours and news about these two.

Ash;
A couple of mentions that he was caught out by some diet pills, one was someone on the other site, another was Andy Goode. Someone else on Facebook saying he told them at a concert that he would start the new season.

JCW
Raggs pointed out that he may not be at pre-season. He was not mentioned on the injury list, but was replaced in the 11th hour by Will Stuart against Falcons with no explanation.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Rugby Inside Line
« on: June 26, 2018, 07:26:15 AM »
Really seem to be stirring the pot more than usual. The most unusual bit being the outcry at Lima, with the outrage that something he said was not in their opinion accurate. Then the irony of posting a rumour about Ricoh being for sale! One rule for one...

Cannot help wonder if someone has been pushing an agenda against Wasps behind the scenes. Seems a bit of goodwill is missing somewhere. Hopefully we can get a good decision in court today, sort the naming rights (which I suspect may be behind the 'Ricoh for sale' rumour) and get Ash sorted to draw draw a line under some of those issues.

Right, now to work out how remove RIL from my Twitter feed. I will get my rumours from elsewhere, or perhaps just try to be a bit more patient and wait for official announcements!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / A very Wasps sort of England game!
« on: June 10, 2018, 07:47:37 AM »
...and is it wrong to cheer a WLR try! Felt conflicted especially as he conned Daly!

I enjoyed the game and as Billy said at the end, it's good to see strong South Africa again. One controversial impression I got was that despite the mistakes, I could see how the Brown and Daly selections were not as bad an idea as it first seemed. Brown's hard carrying into contact, beat the first tackle, but not often passing suits being the last person given the ball. I think Daly was hurt after he fell challenging for a high ball, hope it isn't too serious and wonder if that affected his performance following. The Daly non-grounding real time to me looked like he had grounded that ball to me as it seemed to move, not sure if it was reviewed though as I had to leave the room just after. Think Daly was also a bit left hung out to dry a couple of times and glad the pundits said that.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Injury announcement
« on: May 31, 2018, 04:42:11 PM »
From Wasps web site;
Marcus Garratt: Recovering from a knee operation which is expected to sideline him for between six and nine months.

Simon McIntyre: Recovering from a foot operation and is unlikely to be fit until October.

Rob Miller: Expected to be fit to start the season.

Matt Mullan: Has undergone knee surgery and will be out between six and nine months.

Alex Rieder: Recovering from knee surgery which is expected to keep him out of action into 2019.

Tommy Taylor: Expected to be fit to start the season.

Marcus Watson: Expected to be fit to start the season.

Jack Willis: Recovering from knee and ankle operations which are expected to keep him out for between nine and 12 months.

Thomas Young: Undergoing an ankle operation – expected to be fit for the new season.

Well that announcement has put a dent in my positivity for next year. Matt and Simon was a surprise, we often hear that Dai gets into the scrum during training, perhaps he will put himself on the bench next season! Front row and back row suddenly look worrying, especially throwing potential international duty into the mix. Really hope we balance the luck with the new championship guys and the emerging academy being very good.

Alex and Jack scare me the most, really hope they can come back from the injuries.

Unlike some I think the South Africa tour could be good for Nathan if he can stay injury free, he seems to get better with game time.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Thoughts about team for the Semi
« on: May 16, 2018, 01:41:56 PM »
Seems the trickiest choice will be the back row. Having read some of the discussion about whether Hughes starts or joins from the bench and comparisons with Billy, a couple of thoughts come to mind. We will need as much ball as possible. With injuries in the front row maybe we will struggle a bit in the scrum, not sure that there is any number 8 better than  Hughes at rescuing the ball, the recent law changes even makes most of these legal now as well. Also thinking we need to make Sarries think we will run hard and straight if they don't protect the middle, especially without Ash or Reider. Well there are my two pennies, I don't think it is about Hughes and Billy literally going head to head or not.

Wonder if some of the players without named destinations have signed central contracts with England? Just a thought.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Congratulations Wasps!
« on: May 01, 2018, 09:52:11 PM »
Evening all, hope you are all well. At a time when we should all be enjoying Wasps getting to the semi-finals there seems to be a bit of tension building in the other place. It is starting to get a bit personal so I just wanted to thank everyone that contributes to these forums, I find many posts insightful and they have helped me get so much more enjoyment out of the the games.

In a season where luck and the rub of the green has been against us the Wasps players have stepped up to the challenge and battled through to the semi-finals. They should all be proud of their acheivement. I hope they are able to enjoy the next couple of games, play freely and trust their own and each other's skills. I for one am happy to see them play close to the line and accept the risks that will bring, if they are to win I believe it will be that way.

Enjoy the next couple of games, take care,

'Notso'
