Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: CCFC

I think it’s a good move. I think we can trust wasps to make sure any deal protects the club so that we aren’t at risk, given how much of a deal breaker it’s been to date.

So if they come back we have to assume it’s a safe deal for us.

As others have said above, their fans deserve to have their team playing in their own city. Although a minority of ill informed fans blame wasps, I do sympathise with the majority of the fan base who just want what’s best for their team. Let’s get them back playing at the Ricoh so everyone wins.

Fantastic news!!

Would certainly have been my choice to keep between Cruse or Taylor.

With Oghre and Barberry coming through to challenge him, we have a great set of Hookers in the squad

I’m a fan of TT and as a wasps fan, I’d be sorry to see him leave (not taking into account Cruse). However, if I were a fan of another club, I’m not sure how excited I’d be at my club being linked with signing him.

I’ll hold my hand up, I was convinced we would be relegated and we were on a relentless decline with no signs of regaining our form and magic.... However, Lee and the squad have proved me wrong and shown that the belief shouldn’t be lost so easily.

I also think it shows how fickle we are as fans. If you were to check this board 12 months ago about the opinions of the coaching team and Lee, the notable majority were all calling for his head and how Dai needed to have a clear out. How Lee was out of ideas and our attacking magic had come from Cips, not Lee.

I think salary cap reductions and ongoing financial constraints with lack of crowds will drive our recruitment strategy.

Although we’re making some educated guesses on departures and their likely salaries, we may not replace like for like or use up all of that budget (and other clubs may we’ll be the same, so we wouldn’t fall behind)?

I would be gutted to lose Velllacott as although we haven’t seen much of him, there is a lot of hype around him from those in the know (ex players). It’s great to see Porter coming through from the academy, but is he at a level yet that will push Robson for selection as opposed to just rotation?

Think you might be grasping at straws here...

I know we’re rumoured to be losing a Hooker but I wouldn’t read into that photo that we’re signing Tom Dunn.

I think it would take a lot to pride players away from Bath. They have a great training set-up and have a youthful core to the squad that you have to think are very much on the rise (as opposed to other teams in the prem). He’s just broken into the England set-up, so can’t see him looking to disrupt that when he is established at Bath.

Bobby Bridge has clearly had some fun writing that article!

I don’t see the issue with the celebration. Especially as Cruse says, it’s not often a front row forward scores from open play!

It’s the blatantly disrespectful ones I don’t like or when substitutes pile in around the defending players too, that I can’t stand. But I’m also not of the mind set players shouldn’t have a bit of fun after scoring.
The Wade/Cipriani dance they did a few season back at the Ricoh, I thought was good fun and showed really spirit within the team. Yet I know it wasn’t appreciated by a number of fans (which is fine, each to their own).

Smith has been rumoured to be Bath bound. Would form a good partnership with Spencer.

Surprised at the Quins rumour. From the interviews I’ve read/listened to over the past couple seasons, I thought Gustard had created a really positive atmosphere. Perhaps something has changed there behind the scenes.

A hooker moving on is to be expected tbh, mainly due to squad cycle but also due to having 2 very promising young hookers coming through in Oghre and Barbery. So having 4 Hookers all capable of starting is hard to split game time between and keep all happy (even accounting for injuries).
Being completely honest, I wouldn’t be too upset at TT leaving. Not because I don’t rate him (I do), but because Cruse is arguable our first choice, Oghre showed last season he’s at the level for the regular premiership games and Barbery... well, don’t have to say much there do I!

I’m more intrigued rather than concerned about what we opt to do at TH Prop if Brookes moves on. He came in as a player not many of use were convinced by. Saints fans were glad to be rid but I think he’s been a great signing. Good luck to him if he wants to look for one last big contract. I think we probably need to sign someone but doesn’t necessarily need to be international. Owlet deserves increased game time, so happy to sigma. Solid started rather than a star player.

Am I reading this right... people would rather see another side in the final than as ‘depleted wasps’?!

Clubs have squads for a reason. Our ‘squad players’ have pulled off some results in their time including this season. Anything can happen in a one off game, so I wouldn’t go ruling out us turning it on even with a side missing some names.

I’d much rather be in with a shout of getting that trophy and getting beaten 40-0 than be sat at home watching Bristol (who we demolished in the SF) there in our place.

We as a club deserve to be there, the squad deserve to be there. So if we can field 23 players the lads deserve to be there.

Thought he had a good game today.

Have questioned his performances previous it sometimes I think we underestimate the chanhes required to switch leagues (especially SH to NH rugby). Some players are lucky enough to switch effortlessly but we’re very unsympathetic to those that struggle.

Glad he’s finding his feet and growing in confidence

I'll be first to admit I feared the worst when our 'big names' and 'star players' departed.... thinking we were lacking on calibre as a squad. However, I have been proven wrong as I think the way the club has reset and is re-building in the right way will much better serve the club in the ling term.

It's easier to say this off the back of 4 bonus point wins on the bounce! But I genuinely think we're building in a sustainable way. If we have to take mid table finishes for the next couple of seasons to have another core of players to drive the club forward like we did with our last big crop of academy players, then more than happy with that as will position us to challenge consistently.

I do wonder if Bristol will suffer what we have done the past two seasons after a few seasons with Galacticos?

I think it’s perhaps how we’ve announced our leavers. It’s been spread out and made more personal by thanking them for their service (which I think is a really classy way of doing it).
Where as other club have just released a list in one media announcement and not made much of it. So I think people are thinking more of ours as there’s one announced everyday so appears to be a bigger deal.

I agree, I don’t think we’ve lost any starters other than Carr. But it’s still a loss for the club so in a slow week with virtually no rugby news, TRP was always going to jump on it and spin it as a big deal.

It’s all well and good then getting signatures on their petition, but how many of the signatories would actually use the facility?

Surely the council will take into account signatures from people living miles away aren’t realistic objections as wouldn’t actually make the WSCA proposal a viable one.

Where have they got the figure of 1,500 users per week from? Is this heavily favourable calculation on who ‘might’ use the facility is it was used to its max?

If it was such a successful sports centre, how have wasps even got a look in to purchase it and redevelop?!
