Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Wasps update February 2024
« on: March 05, 2024, 07:27:01 PM »
It's been a while since I've been here, and seeing the rumours etc. thought I'd throw my response to the rumours and reactions.

Honestly it doesn't feel right walking into the URC. It's not an English league and I don't understand why we should. It's a very weird league as is and I'd prefer to be in the Prem.

That said, we do not deserve to walk into the Prem. We ceased to exist and now we have this entitlement that we're too big not to be in the Prem? If we were why didn't we survive before?

We only deserve to be in the Prem after getting there from the bottom sustainably.

Also as you guys and gals may gather from my tone, I'm not sympathetic towards the club. In fact I blame the previous owners and management for how it went. Then again it was arguably an impossible situation etc. but I don't blame the RFU or the Prem.

Don't get me wrong, other clubs were vultures, somehow affording our players after fitting them into the previously lowered salary cap. That stuff was downright baffling how that stuff happened.

It all still feels so.... Unrealistic. I don't have confidence in the club currently and don't understand the entitlement. I want the club to return, but it is not entirely realistic how we're going about it.

And, just remember folks, Coventry never went bust and got demoted to the bottom most league. Oh, wait, they did go bust? Did they get kicked to the bottom? No. Short memories, people in glass houses.

Meritocracy my @r5e. Anywhere money is involved, there will be sharks and speakers of untruths.

Coventry entered administration, and were rescued a month later, paid off their rugby debts, retained their squad and were hit with a points deduction that relegated them.

Wasps went into administration, were relegated and were given opportunities to find alternative funding. They failed to do that.  They made every employee unemployed and wrapped up.  They were then given a considerable period of time to find alternative funding with a place in the championship open and waiting for them. They failed again. The club that once was is completely dead and has been for several years.

The situations are completely different. If coventry had not found their funding and gone out of existence they would have been forced to start from the bottom. If Wasps had found buyers and funding on the two separate occasions they were given opportunity to do so they'd be playing one division down from where they were when they went into administration, which is the same punishment dished out to coventry.

You seem to forget Wasps had finance arranged but the RFU would not meet the investors to give confidence that they would be supporting Prem 2. No confidence given and still that way. URC are at least welcoming at a high level.

I find this hard to believe. From what I understand, Wasps ceased to exist after entering administration and not finding a a financial solution. We couldn't verify a alternative.

Unless there's evidence the RFU and/or Prem went out of their way to let our club going under, it's clear it is Wasps fault the we went into administration.

Completely agree.

Irrespective of how emotional WW fans are, I completely agree.

It's very distasteful to use a fellow team's ground who went bust the same season you did, in your own comeback. It just doesn't sit right. If it was another active prem club I'd have issues, but consider it. However, not WW, I just don't agree with it.

But we're going to have far bigger problems beyond this, to try and be sustainable.

Thank you VV.  I haven't (if anyone is wondering) imagined or invented anything that I've written on either Wasp thread - ever.  I'm not good at porkies.  I gave my word to  2 people who knew I would stick to my word, and  that I will do.  The Cardiff Affair rang a great many bells for me and (like you all) I await the outcome.  I do apologise to everyone.  I didn't mean to annoy anyone.   Again  -  thank you VV.  I'll now ''zip my lip''.

My apologies, I now agree with yourself and VV. It is actually helpful hearing this, even if frustrating we can't hear more. Thank you.

Sorry but I can't break promises.  He began well.  Man-management not good at all.  Sorry.

Really pointless to go "I'm not surprised, but I couldn't possibly explain why!". Adds nothing but speculation towards your comments, which begs the question why say anything if you can't elaborate?

It's the first interview where I've heard someone prominent from the club say that they were misled by the Leadership Team.

I mean, Derek himself said everything was fine a few weeks before it wasn't. I am sure that was to steady the ship for potential investors etc. But wouldn't be surprised if that mantra was used internally to staff and players as well.

He's right though. If this is the proposal accepted by RFU, then both Wasps and RFU are idiots for thinking it would work.

I don't know what the solution is, but based on recent history, it is not this.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: More Financial Trouble?
« on: March 12, 2023, 01:29:14 PM »
I think it depends on which club is staring into the abyss.

If it's a "big" club, then all the stops will pulled out to ensure the survival of the club. The 10 club league will have to wait.

If it's anyone else, then I'd speculate that enough support will be given, probably as a PR exercise to show lessons have been learned, but it might not be enough to stop a club from winding up as it will be a convenient path to the coveted 10 club league.

I wonder if having a success with pushing Wasps over the edge by changing repayment conditions if HMRC are doing it again. If so the whole league will be scared sh1tless. Quite a pleasing thought.

Why do you like the thought of other clubs going under? I think it's likely to happen, but I take no joy in it.

Weird how Tom was meant to be in the squad according to the "leak" last week.

I've gone off the prem because of us folding, but also I just cannot bring myself to watch the lads, in particular our academy lads, play for other prem teams. There's no doubt in my mind Tom Willis is going to crush it for Sarries and suddenly everyone will say he needs to play for England. Bit frustrating how that's after he's gone to Saracens, but still.

God it hurts to think about all this still.

Anyone but The Cheats. Willis is a nice guy - surely he won’t fit in.

Oh come on. He is a Pro sportsman. He needs to earn money, and they are offering him just that. Are Wasps? No. Will Wasps ever, in his career, be able to afford him? No. Those days are gone. Be happy for the lad.

+1

This ain't gonna be Mind Games Eddie, this will likely be tactics Eddie. And I reckon he'll be interesting and a good laugh. I enjoyed seeing Cheika's analysis after he left coaching, showcased his understanding of the game.

If he was alongside Woodward it would only show how much more of a dinosaur Woodward is compared to Eddie.

Wasn't this a thread about who Wasps might attract in various roles and positions? Rather than yet another Engerland witterfest.

You must be new here! Every thread usually turns into England, RFU or Saracens hate.

Yes new here so didn't realise it was mandatory for each thread to slide into other rugby domains.

Was just my poor attempt at sarcasm, just pointing out this happens a lot here.
