Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Team against Wuss?
« on: September 07, 2017, 10:46:48 AM »
I spent a bit of time watching Juan and Simmo warming up together at the Sale game, and if Juan can bring any of the incredible ball skills he has to bear in a match he will be something to see.

That being said I think Gabi is increbible, and once he has got his head round the fact that he is always potentially going to be on the end of a pass he will be unstoppable.  I think he was rightly man of the match and that was with bouncing the ball off his face a couple of times instead of catching it.

The only thing I'd do differently is to maybe have Thompson on the bench, Everyone did very well and I'd say they deserve their place in the team.

He may well simply be away, but as the club is still saying they don't have a timescale for his return and it has been almost a year I cannot help but fear the worst.  I cannot think of an injury that would cause a lay off like this without being career ending.  My guess is there were complications of the surgery and they are still ongoing.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Sam Jones

Despite all the reassurances that he was fine and raring to go we still haven't seen Sam Jones. I didn't even see him in the players lounge after the Sale game despite almost all of the other injured or rested players being there.

Any guesses?

My thoughts are that at some stage this season we'll hear of him having to retire due to complications of his injury. I seriously hope I'm wrong though...

He was at the game on Saturday. I had a brief chat with him afterwards. He said he was enjoying having a bit of a break.

There was some really nice looking stuff. I might have got away with buying myself something if I didn't have the entire family with me...

Can't wait for the first game. Am installed with friends in Lichfield and counting the minutes...

I think we're gonna have a good season.

Sadly I'm not in a position to sort the other place. Am away from home with only a phone for internet access.

Hopefully someone else will sort it.

I know what you mean, but beating Australia in Sydney is no mean feat.

A surprise result after the run of form Scotland have been enjoying recently.  Did they mess it up?  Or are Fiji a team on the rise?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Alapati scores for Samoa

Wales scrape a win, but Alapati scores a try that could have been right out of Wasps' playbook.

I'm really sad to see him go.

It did this for a week or so a couple of years back.  Someone will eventually fix it, Sportsnetwork make too much money off it to leave it down for long.

I'm not convinced that's his Instagram.

My concern is that he might have suffered some sort of post op infection or that the op might not have been as successful as initially hoped.  Its hard to make any educated guesses based on the lack of information we have been given, but a "fractured fibula" alongside a "significant ankle injury" suggests to me that is might have been what is known as a Maisonneuve fracture.  That fits with the timescale as you'd expect someone to take about 5 months to return to sport after one of those.

But the extra 3-4 months?  Removing metalwork will maybe add a few weeks to things, but we'd expect to seem in in training at the very least.  And that did not seem to be the case.

Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: The Welsh Lions
« on: June 06, 2017, 03:11:43 PM »
Part of their team bonding before they left the UK was to learn 4 different songs/hymns, one that relates to each of the home nations.  I'm guessing the Welsh one was the one they opted for on arrival.

That seems like a reasonable explanation.  But with Welsh coaches, Welsh players being over-represented based on individual and national form, Welsh captains of the squad and initial teams, and then a Welsh response ot the Maori welcome it does seem a little Welsh-centric.  Whcih would be fine if they were the dominant team, but that's not even close to be true.
