Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: The Game
« on: April 06, 2019, 08:56:51 PM »
Realistically with the games we have ahead compared to those around us I think top 4 is beyond us. Top 6 however is within reach and might be necessary financially for us for next year.
Can’t see us getting much from next week but can’t see us experimenting with youngsters whilst top six is a reality.

Also there is an A League game on Monday which is why (I imagine) Neal, Sirker, Porter, Umaga etc have not been considered...

On paper we should be able to beat Worcester - especially up front.
However as we all know our quality on paper has not transformed to pitch quality this year at all.
Wonder if Gaby has got something over Dai!!!!
Also harsh on Miller who yet again is jettisoned as soon as a higher paid player returns.
Not saying he had been setting the world alight from 10, of course he hasn’t but at times like this it makes me so surprised he signed a new deal as this pattern has been happening for him for about four seasons now.

Not read the article but surely this isn’t true after the other recent articles detailed above. He also has Fekitoa and JT-A joining up next year, new coaches hopefully and undoubtedly a better season ahead (also if we’re in the challenge cup he’ll also have less pressure on him throughout the season, either less gametime f he isn’t used at all or opposition where he can try new things with the backs against weaker opposition than the premiership might produce)

The money talked about did sound pretty good!!!
Wish him well though and hope to see Ackerman stay for that whole time too

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Antonio TJ Harris is off
« on: April 02, 2019, 04:42:17 PM »

I can't see us allowing both Myall and Garratt to leave this summer as we haven't signed a second row to my knowledge and don't have a ready made replacement from the academy that can play chunks of next season in the GP (perhaps just too soon for Cardall to step up to 10-15 GP appearances next season).

No offence meant to Garratt but it would not take much to step into his shoes as he has hardly played in three years. Myall is getting older but is a canny operator and is still our quickest lock although not a massive carrier.
I think we drastically need another first choice lock to cover for Launchbury and compete with Gaskell for a start. Rowlands and then Matthews cover them with Cardall getting as much gametime as possible.

I can see Myall leaving but as Garratt is still quite young I can imagine if we get him on similar money to what he is on now he still has time to fulfill his promise.
There have been no rumours of us signing a lock though which is unfortunate and can see us not recruiting there at all this summer.

Shame to see him go as he seemed a nice lad whenever he was doing the 'Wasps Ambassador' role on match day, plus he looks decent on the pitch. But as BG has said, we are pretty well stocked in the Hooker department. I know the focus in on Barberry currently but I also read lots of good stuff on Oghre who should be getting promoted into the Snr squad next season. So sensible business decision from Dai to allow TJ to head off for more game time.

Who is left to confirm as re-signed or departing, just Gaby? Last season we announced them all in one go, but perhaps with the media hype on our departing players and the suggestion there's an exodus, maybe it makes better PR sense to drip feed that news.

I think Booby Bridge raised question marks relating to 5 players. I think news about 2 still haven't been announced (Gaby and Myall?.. Perhaps Garrat?) normally that means they haven't been offered a contract but haven't themselves signed elsewhere.

And possibly West on the assumption that he might have been on a one year deal if Stuart was.
Possibly the championship signings too as Atkinson is off and Morris re-signed so maybe Booj to re-sign although would have hoped searle and Neal as younger guys would have been on longer deals

Is Lima definitely going to be back?

If Gaby is injured it good be Booj to 12 or jdj to 12 Daly to 13

Big decisions to be made in the back row too. Young has to start and then it’s between Shields and Hughes who’ll probably get the nod when I think most of us would start Nemo and jack Willis instead

Wonder how Murphy feels about Ford’s appointment. Murphy was given the job, has some experienced coaches around him and now they’ve brought in Ford and thinking about Cheika for next year.

Cheers for that Nelly,
Sounds like it’s done a great deal to build a bit of momentum again at the club. These young guys, especially the likes of spink, Porter, Anderson, Simmonds, Sirker, Barbeary, Atta etc who’ve had a taste of good things at age group level and on the 7s circuit need to know they have a route to the first team.
With a bit more luck with injuries next season I hope we can field as strong an A team and Anglo Welsh team all season so that it benefits the youngsters rather than just throws them to the lions in a team full of guests and U18s.
Onwards and upwards

That was a weak team Leicester put out especially in the backs with a fair few guests in there but is a real testament to our ruthlessness that we could put them to the sword.
Great signs and more great experience for the likes of Oghre and Cardall to play alongside more experienced players and to have the likes of Porter and Umaga really start running things.
In my mind while searle is out Umaga is second choice 10 and Porter should be pushing Simpson for the 9 shirt.
Neal and Sirker have very good cases to be getting gametime ahead of some of more expensive options that are just not performing.
Even Bassett should be looking over his shoulder now with Sirker.

NellyWellyWasp thanks for the report. Do you have a final assessment on the Anderson at 15 move or do you think he was just filling in until he can get more gametime at 13?
Also how did Kieran Curran get on, big lad in his first year out of school, but did he match up physically?

1348
James did his ACL around Xmas, only recently just back walking on it I believe.
Big shame as hoped he’d have had a chance at FB/wing this season

1349
Wonder if Hampson picked up an injury last weekend.

Good to see Atta get a start as well as West. Seabrook and Langey you’d hope have a good game as they’re running out of time to impress for senior contracts (although Seabrook might have another year at uni, not sure)

If anyone goes I’d be keen to see how Curran goes in the back row when he comes on. Absolute beast at u18 level but been injured a fair bit this season I believe, be interested to see how he fairs physically alongside the bigger boys.
