Hope so. I’m still at the stage of watching him after every contact.

Likewise with Barbeary

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Jack Willis Times article

A real emotional & mental rollercoaster ride. Really pleased for him, his family & Wasps.

Also hats off to Harris for using his own injury downtime, not only to get himself back, but to support Jack. Great team spirit.

Now confirmed that Joe and Alfie away with Eddie this weekend, also Alex Dombrandt, Marcus Smith & Joe Marchant.

Probably the biggest news from this is Quins getting Marler back given their scrum last week.

Reported that Marler requested to be released to play against Wasps …

Not having both captains (Launchbury & Shields) available this week isn’t ideal. We need a strong character to step in … I’d like to see Stooke become skipper.

Saw Stooke’s tweet about this. Terrible news.

Extract from article:
“… and during the act and subsequent challenge of scoring he was injured.”

Can only imagine the anguish those involved in that “challenge” must be feeling.

Somewhat contradicts Goode’s comments the other week that this issue came down to Leicester offering a 2-year contract versus Wasps’ 1.

In light of the reduced salary cap and managing a forward-looking squad, I understand why Wasps managed the situation the way they did. Unfortunate outcome but probably the right decision.

Bristol capitulating in the second half. What a mare season they’re having.

Should make our visit in a couple of weeks interesting…

Hope he doesn’t score four more tries.

Would love to keep Wade at the top

It’s Varndell who currently tops the table with 92 tries. Cueto is 2nd with 90 tries, followed by Ashton on 89 and Wade on 82.

But agree with the sentiment - would be nice to have a former Wasp remain top of the table.

Quite possibly. With Brad’s knock it might even be Oghre 7 with Van Vuuren covering hooker. Morris also a possible 7.
Morris is starting to become Mr Dependable. Nothing flashy, just goes about his business in a professional way and always seems to be around when something good happens and rarely when something bad happens. I'm never sorry to see his name on the team sheet, other than it probably means we're missing a star. He might even be that start one day.

Have said this for the last few years. When fit and available he flies under the radar and does his job.

My worry is that Morris is exactly the kind of player that will be a victim of the salary cap reduction.
Absolutely worth his weight but in cuts I’m sure we’d rather invest the money in Brad Shields and an up and coming Kieran Curran.
I hope he stays a bit longer

Morris is highly underrated and is unlucky to be competing with some serious talent for the shirt. Given he was the last player to get a contract extension (just 7 months a go), shows his value is recognised so hopefully he’ll be around for a while longer. Frankly speaking there are others (not in the back row though) who should face the axe ahead of Morris if needs be.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Building the Future

Maybe this article was the building for the future

https://www.wasps.co.uk/news/coach-s-notebook-recruitment/

Thanks for posting this.

Signings to be announced in the near future.

Yes, intriguing final paragraph:

"The players we recently announced as leaving is something we’d planned for. We have made a number of signings for next season, targets which were identified some time ago, and we’ll be announcing some of those new arrivals in the very near future."

Other than the S African centre that has been doing the rounds, I've not heard of any others.  Wasps do seem particularly good at not showing their hand.  Koch was kept under wraps  and seemingly only announced on Wasps' terms.

Munster’s tighthead, John Ryan, seems to be a credible rumour.

Short memories from CCFC?

Less than a year ago:

Boddy (City CEO) added: “Mark Robins and I came to look at the pitch in the summer with Stephen Vaughan and his grounds team and it was in a far better condition than it was when we left here, so it’s already better than it was when we last played here.

And that was even before the full & costly pitch renovations that took place last summer!

So a worse off pitch was good enough to play on before (when they were sole tenants & fully responsible) yet a much improved pitch now illicits a public smear?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Selection for Bath Game
« on: February 07, 2022, 04:10:43 PM »
Agree with others - I would not risk losing the momentum gained by fielding anything less than the best available 23 this week. Not only is maintaining that winning mentality (particularly against top clubs) a massive psychological edge we can’t afford to lose, but with recent (and expected) injury returns we have the ‘luxury’ to continue to select the best 23 while rotating in positions we have competitive depth.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that not only do we have a bye week on 5/6 March but the weekend after the Saints game (19/20 March) is a Prem Rugby Cup fixture where we can rest key players.

Lastly this is our last home game for 6 weeks, so we need to make this game count as we look to move up in the table and drive up attendance numbers at the CBS.

Bath and a depleted Quins up next.

I thought Atkinson was very good yesterday.

Just noticed that Bath will be our last home game for 6 weeks (Newcastle 26th March is next)

I think Quins may have their England internationals back for our game (coincides with the first 6N rest week).

Having said that next 3 fixtures before our bye week could see an interesting reshuffle in 4th, 5th & 6th:
  • Harlequins (43): Saracens (A), Wasps (H), Worcester (A)
  • Northampton (40): Leicester (A), Sale (H), Exeter (H)
  • Wasps (37): Bath (H), Harlequins (A), Bristol (A)

Sale now get the TBP 7-29. Quins are a mess. Their whole game is dependent on Smith and Dombrandt and it shows.

Shame both will probably be back in time for our visit to The Stoop in a couple of weeks (rest week in 6Ns).

Tomorrow would be the icing on the cake if we can walk away with a good win.
Just don’t need any red or yellows.

… or new injuries
