Smiling, so maybe the drugs haven't worn off?

(I also saw Lima's plane is in Kuala Lumpur, soon to take off again on to 'home'):

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Amazing Come Back
« on: June 06, 2021, 04:57:52 PM »
I don't think I have seen anything like it. The away team getting mullered by the home side, even though the home side deservedly got a man red carded, just as he should have been, the ref and TMO got it just right, as the officials always do. 18 down, and to pull that back and win by 3 points. Chiefs deserve all the credit.

Sarcasm over.

When does the window open that other clubs can talk to our Academy players? Soon I think.

At that time, Wasps tend to announce the Academy to Main Squad contracts (and by omission, those who are being released, and to whom other teams can talk to.

I suspect Wasps have taken the decision that is where the majority of gaps made by leavers will be filled from, instead of parachuted in marquees and big names.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Morning All!!

Woke up at 2AM. What is wrong with my brain?

Did a load of work for an hour (might as well), then noticed it was snowing. Just a dusting so far. Also realised Amazon were supposed to have delivered a parcel before 10pm yesterday, so checked and it is now delayed for a day, or two.

Got an email to say my Netflix subscription is going up £2 a month. I wonder if Amazon Prime will follow suit? A bit of a captive market right now.

As to the game, snow is maybe forecast but whatever, it is going to be cold. Hope the guys get fired up and have another scorcher.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Nigel Owens Humour - Austin Healey
« on: December 22, 2020, 05:42:08 PM »
Healey, after a game, 'Nigel, can I ask you a question?'
Owens, 'Of course you can Austin, what is it?'
Healey, 'Why have you taken an instant dislike to me, Nigel?'
Owens, 'It saves time Austin.'

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Wasps Rugby Discussion / OT: Is it possible that it was inevitable?
« on: December 22, 2020, 10:06:14 AM »
Apologies for being a grumpy old man this last year. I have still to recover from my Covid and Heart Attack. Still barely any sense of smell. No fresh smells of Autumn or Winter. The outside air still smells totally devoid of anything. I am still struggling for breath after mild exertion.

I was thinking about this 'new' strain. Was it inevitable? At the outset I will declare that I didn't do Biology at school, as, at my school, it was compulsory only in Year 9 (3rd year) and then optional for O level. I got clobbered playing rugby at the start of that year, and the weekly hospital operations and therapy were at the same time as my classmates did Biology. So, just like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Here is my very layman's (Daily Mail level of intelligence) understanding of viruses. Let loose into a population, they mutate and the strain that optimally infects that population tends to be the dominant strain. So, if we, as humans, identify a sub-section of our society that seems to be resistant to infection by the dominant strain, and then group them all together, the virus will mutate until it can infect them more effectively. So, we did just that in September. Put all the schoolchildren in an environment called schools.

I would conclude that, somewhere in the world where this was done (we were not the only country that put the education of our children 'first' and reopened schools), the virus would mutate to overcome whatever it was that made the children less susceptible. In this case, I am told it is the lack of receptors, so the virus appears to have increased its 'load' to overwhelm what few receptors the children have. Give the intermixing of children in families when they get home, and that their siblings often went to different schools, the spread would have been rapid, with the 'scientists' tracking it months behind reality. When that new strain got in to the 'normal' population, as it would, it exploded, as for adults with way more receptors they became massively more vulnerable.

The limited evidence suggests this happened somewhere in the Kent/Medway area (so look for a school that had a lot of cases in September). Too late now, but would a virologist have said that isolating groups of people who were much less susceptible would inevitably lead to a much more effective (at spreading) mutation?

My guess is that that now, some 3 months after it started to spread, it will not only be everywhere in the UK, but in fact will be all over Europe and indeed the world. Horse, gate and bolts come to mind. Thus I conclude that the world/EU travel bans, and the inevitable French ban of all things 'British', was entirely political. Indeed, Bojo will, at some point, have to concede we have 'lost the fight'.

Strangely hopeful about today. A big day for Charlie.

An odd choice, with official sunset at HQ for the 24th at about 5:50, a 6PM KO.
