Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Wasps facing relegation

As odd as it may seem, if we do get successfully sold, it may be a good thing to be one of the first going down the pan, since I can't imagine there's a large immediate market of people looking to buy rugby clubs, and if Wasps and Wuss are sold, that number will only get significantly smaller for the next poor club.

The other thing is that someone interested in premiership football ownership can afford to run a rugby club without blinking.

A high number of premiership footballers earn more than £100k per week.
That £100k per week is essentially the entire annual salary cap for a rugby club.

If SISU weren't an absolute nightmare to deal with I imagine the potential of owning Wasps and CCFC would be appealing to certain people.

You get a premier league level ground, an area with fantastic footballing academy talent, you get to split the running costs with the rugby club and you would do away with al ot of the bad blood between the two clubs.

If only!

That would be my days as a Wasps fan finished.

Any owner, or SISU?

I'd certainly not be against a joint owner, but wouldn't fancy SISU. However CCFC is up for sale I believe, so a joint owner coming in could be beneficial.

Is it the RFU or the PRL that would make the decision on whether it's relegation time?

I actually prefer our pack, though I think I prefer their forwards on the bench (except of course for Jack!).

Prefer our 9/10, but the rest of the backs are probably in Glaws advantage. Come down to how well the team has been coached, and how well they've gelled together.

From The Telegraph this evening

5 (prem) clubs up for sale:

Warriors
Irish
Tigers

and ... ?

Is it 5 prem clubs? Are we sure he's not including championship in his statement? Either way, it's a lot.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Kits Rated - Telegraph

Bath in 12th and Bristol in 6th basically flags him as legally blind I suspect. I can understand not wanting to rate us too highly without our away kit being released yet, but still, 7th is harsh seeing as our home kit is gorgeous.

Just watched the highlights, is it just me that didn’t like the way Spink “looked” for the contact on the Dragons 15 in the build up to the Crossdale try?

That’s the sort of hit that can take you out the game as much as them. Once the 15 was set like that Spink could have run round him. I know I’m picking fault in a great try, but you don’t need to smash in to players when you have the ball, they’re meant to stop you. Players will get injured enough over the season without adding to the risk unnecessarily.

Good win though, looking forward to the season.

Don't think Spink could have stepped to the outside at that point, stepping further in would have had the 15 around his legs without issue. 15 was set slightly too low, allowing spink to hit him down as he did. Think it was the right choice myself.

My head can't argue too much with 8th-10th to be honest. My heart does a bit though.

"The issuer is now working on the proposed bond terms to be amended and will formally launch a consent solicitation process in August once the proposed terms have been finalised."

Let's highlight the other bit. Perhaps the terms haven't been finalised. If the terms are being put together with the input of major bondholders (I'd presume this is allowed and indeed sensible), then it could be that things are still being hammered out.

It could even be signs of good news. There's no need to launch a consent solicitation process if the bond is simply going to be paid.

There was clearly an expectation that the terms would have been finalised in sufficient time before the end of August in order that the revised terms could be offered for acceptance or rejection in August. This is similar to the statements that we have agreed terms with HSBC, we are finalising terms with HSBC, we are pursuing alternative financing - all at various points in this debacle as the end point has been kicked further and further down the road.

However, your point about the lack of need for a Solicitation if the bonds are simpler going to be repaid is a good one. However, if there was an expectation that this would be the case, why not update the bondholders?

I suspect you've seen the latest update, looks like I may well have been correct.

Players not involved for Wasps

    Joe Launchbury
    Jack Willis
    Tom West
    Paolo Odogwu
    Will Haydon-Wood
    Ben Harris
    Rodrigo Martinez
    Elliott Stooke
    Jacob Umaga
    Nizaam Carr
    Michael van Vuuren
    Theo Vukasinovic
    Sam Wolstenholme
    Francois Hougaard
    Vincent Koch
    Gabriel Oghre

That's a fair list.

I count 8 that I'd include in a 23 without questions. Another 3 would be very likely to make it.

Would also ad that Nick Eastwood (CEO) and his wife, are really nice folks too, and very much rugby fans. Had the pleasure of meeting them on one of the very few visits to the Ricoh I've managed. His wife was very excited to spread the news of the Quins vs saints (I think) game, the one where the clock was in the red, Quins held the lead, but Botica inexplicably kicked the ball infield rather than off the pitch.

Making a bit of room if Worcester fold I guess. Some potential bargains available basically. And with our location and Hougaard to tell them how wonderful it is, we might actually be not an unattractive option.

The fact it was dismissed immediately suggests our owners aren't panicking.

To reply to that (assuming a differing opinion is allowed) it’s not about negativity at all. It’s frustration that we aren’t looking after the game when we have the chance.

Looking after which game? The players involved are either getting 1 extra game at the end of the season (those involved in any sort of playoff position have the same situation). Those players will have more stress placed on them. But the income from this match, will absolutely go a long way looking after the game, a lot further than not having this game.
