Anyone picking anything up about us signing David Meiheizen from Stormers? Lock at 6ft 9 and 20 stone.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Injury narrative.
« on: January 01, 2022, 04:31:45 PM »
Can’t escape the fact that injuries have hurt us in a big way. But I’m getting fed up with it being the accompanying narrative to our defeats. To be clear it’s not Blackett or the club or the players - it’s mainly the media. But I wonder if it seeps into mindsets. You can’t play a season waiting - you’ve got to make things happen. We take the field today with a pack most are happy with. Back three are good enough and OK, we’re a bit disrupted at 9, 10 and 13 but we have enough talent in the 23. I’m not sure as good as Launchbury, Robson, Willis and Fekitoa are there is going to be a wholesale change of fortune. Ironically it may be Mills we’ve missed as much as anyone. We seem to have been looking towards the end of January forever as games come and go. Those that are playing simply need to do better . Points and places are available now.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Injury updates
« on: December 29, 2021, 05:17:27 PM »
Apologies - too much of a Luddite to share the link but to précis the article:
Atkinson back in contention for Sale
Also considering Miller & Gopperth
Gaskell has done a training session
Minozzi has as well
T Willis rolled his ankle but could make Sale.
Hislop back from isolation
Blackett confirming competition for second row and back row places when all are fit as “brutal”!!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Bath v Exe ceded by Bath.
« on: December 27, 2021, 08:14:58 PM »
Apparently Bath aren’t intending to fulfil this fixture due to various issues amongst which is the inability to field an adequate front row. So there imperfect record will continue. I take no joy in it - the Prem is better with a strong Bath team but something is very wrong there at the moment.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / What chance the London Irish game going ahead?
« on: December 20, 2021, 02:39:39 PM »
I see the government are currently meeting over possible new COVID measures. The Boxing Day game is obviously still on at present - how do we rate the chances of it staying on?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / 10.
« on: November 27, 2021, 12:33:28 AM »
We appear to have nailed our colours to the mast on this but having just got back  from the game tonight it seems obvious if unpopular that Umaga is just not good enough at 10 for a team that should be a serious top 4 prospect. Forget the place kicking - albeit that regularly costs us 6-12 points per game. Dropped passes, aimless kicking, fizzed passes and bizarre decision making smack to me of a lack of competition. There was one incident where Jacob idled towards the perimeter of our in house goal area and attempted a ridiculous kick which served no purpose and actually instantly put all of our forwards offside. Glaws subsequently scored a try through our massively spaced out defence. Ultimately that play cost us the game. How long can we continue to indulge our talented but game costing 10? Because don’t be fooled by the score line - this was dreadful.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Borrow your watch and tell you the time stuff?
« on: November 26, 2021, 08:04:20 AM »
I must admit I had to chuckle having a read of the review Ed Griffiths has done at Bath. He was doing a root and branch job, talking to everyone from the tea lady to the owner. There was deep thinking, mingling with the fans and a general hard nosed look into every nook and cranny at the club. Conclusion?…..They need a defence coach. Brilliant. I hope they kept their receipt.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Prem Cup
« on: November 07, 2021, 09:48:15 PM »
Who on earth are we going to field for the Prem Cup? A complete dead rubber but im assuming we’re obliged to field a side of sorts. I wouldn’t dream of playing anyone from today’s 23 so here goes!
1) As yet unknown loanee
2) As yet unknown loanee
3) Alo
4) Cardall
5) As yet unknown loanee
6) Curran
7) Morris
8) As yet unknown loanee
9) Wolstenholme
10) Mathews
11) Bacon
12) As yet unknown loanee
13) As yet unknown loanee
14) Mehson
15) As yet unknown loanee

Replacements must all be loans. Can’t see any other way. And would offer a “bye” if allowed.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / A good start.
« on: October 30, 2021, 06:13:43 PM »
Won 3. Lost 3. For me it’s a good start. Forget the injuries, extreme though they are. We’ve beaten Saints, Bristol and Bath - no back numbers themselves. The losses have been to Sarries, Exeter and Newcastle away when we really threw it away. Our defence is winning us games. Our attack is decent with some fine tuning needed. Set piece is par. In Stooke, Fifita, Hislop, Crossdale, Frost and Carr we have some great additions. In Mitchell we’ve acquired experience and a certain presence. Certainly things to work on but overall I’m really encouraged.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Theoretical 23 v Bath.
« on: October 25, 2021, 07:13:35 PM »
I must admit I’m a bit surprised at some of the reaction to the Sarries game. It was, quite clearly, a tactical decision around selection. Our squad is strong. Theoretically our 23 v Bath could be:
West
Oghre
JTA
Stooke
Fifita
Shields
Young
Willis
Robson
Umaga
Bassett
Gopperth
McHenry
Kibirige
Crossdale

Hislop
Holding
Alo
Cardall
Carr
Watson
Porter
Mathews

That is a very good team - certainly capable of taking on any team in the league. We’re in a good place for me.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Jeff
« on: October 17, 2021, 10:34:25 AM »
Must admit when Brookes left last year I was a bit worried about TH but Jeff is rapidly inking himself in as one of the first names on the team sheet. Set piece wise he's improved no end and is making even more impact in the loose. I hope he is intending to stay on these shores for a while. Also impressed with Scholtz at scrum time.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Who are our talent scouts?
« on: October 16, 2021, 07:52:58 PM »
Not sure who they are but they have my thanks. Due to them I believe we are well and truly a top 4 side again. Fifita, Scholtz, Hislop, Frost, Stooke, Crossdale, Hougaard and Millar-Mills along with JTA, Shields etc that went before. Extremely shrewd signings. Coupled with what we already had I'm convinced we're the strongest we've been for 10-15 years. Exciting times ahead!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Red button?
« on: September 27, 2021, 08:43:44 PM »
Does anyone know if the Falcons game is on the red button on BT Sport? I know we're not one of their "main" games but they showed everything there last season. Not sure if that was an ongoing thing or just a Covid initiative?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / First Prem "Teams Up".
« on: September 23, 2021, 06:54:42 PM »
We'll know by midday tomorrow but what 23 are people expecting. I'm thinking:

1) Harris
2) Cruse
3) Alo
4) Stooke
5) Fifita
6) Shields
7) Young
8) Willis
9) Robson
10) Umaga
11) Bassett
12) Spink
13) Fekitoa
14) Watson
15) Crossdale

Hislop, Oghre, JTA, Cardall, Morris, Miller, Hougaard, Gopperth.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / New contract for Theo.
« on: August 13, 2021, 12:16:49 PM »
Vukasinovic had extended his contract and will go out on loan to Ampthill along with Zac Nearchou. So we've obviously not given up on TV and will go into the season with three LH's.
