Hard read. Very sad that anyone would get to that point.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Premiership Management Changes

Personally I think this is going in the right direction. I have doubts whether it will work, but its better than doing nothing.
Tom Wood comes over as  a very decent & down to earth bloke so I can't see him towing any party lines he doesn't agree with.

I'll give it a chance before slagging it off.

I'd sit on the same bench here and give it a chance. But they really do need to move quickly and decisively and not kick matters down the road.

My work was in governance (flash word for auditor!) and such an approach (governance based) would be good for rugby. But - the problem may be that the "project" Pro Rugby in England is in such a state that even with the advice from people involved in Prem Football money etc  there isn't a viable outcome.

This wasn't uncommon in projects I reviewed and advised upon. The main problem often being "you wouldn't start from here" And Prem Rugby seems to fall into such a category.....

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: R.I.P. Paul Rendall

Very sad news. Terrible disease Whilst nowhere near as good....I modelled my days as a prop on Paul and saw him play at the 87 RWC as well as for Wasps.

Met him at Bracknell - only the once - but appreciated he took the time to speak to an old fan.

I am sort of with you, but I tried my 'local' team, and the atmosphere was totally lacking. I could have been standing at the school gates waiting to collect my daughter. I had no connection, no belonging. I first watched Wasps with a work friend in the late 80s. Going to a local game just doesn't work for me. Wasps, or nothing is where I am at.

Fair call. I do have a link into the local team as I'm on the Trust that runs the grounds where they play and so have an interest in them and a project going forwards - but I'll have to see  - your warning my well overcome my interest!

Sounds like you agree with the post?
Yep - having a bad day on the comprehension front!

The RFU 'Powers that be'  seem to be labouring under the delusion that all the supporters of the  (apparently) soon to be defunct Clubs will throw away their flags and rush off  to support other Clubs.  Many  -  if not most  -  of those fans have supported just one club  for most of their lives.  They're not going to change now just to please the RFU.  Those fans will be lost foe ever.
This is tosh. Whilst not a regular attendee in recent times - I've only ever - since the late 70s - identified as a Wasps supporter. Probably in the first place as my school shirts were not dissimilar and probably as I liked the attitude.

I am a general rugby fan, but that doesn't mean I'm going to other clubs games. I live near enough to go to three others these days, but I will be going next season to see my local team with the other 75 people. I'm more likely to go and support my local league 2 football team than go and support another Prem side.

I may change my mind when the lack of rugby becomes more apparent - but at present, I'm not going to games unless invited by mates for a game and few beers. But that's more unlikely than before as we've all moved to different parts of the country and travel isn't so simple at present.

Just taking what was in the Tele story - I'm with everyone who think the RFU are both panicking and making it up as they go along...

If this is true - the RFU allegedly tried to "help" by looking to introduce a source of finance BUT.....apparently at the same time, didn't understand that given the value difference between Champ and Prem, having no certainty/potential ringfencing would mean such "sources of finance" wouldn't be interested?

I'd guess that this is linked to the Prem potentially losing Wasps, Worcester and LI on short order, a risk that's not the end of the matter (other clubs at risk) and the RFU are suddenly seeing that any lights at the end of the tunnel are attacked to a large train....

As for Wasps I'm beyond getting where anything is frankly  - but I am prob being a bit thick...

A level of disappointment with this outcome and with the RFU who seem to have contributed to where we are now and their attitude seemed to have meant what little chance there was, was crushed. And that the likely outcome is as others have suggested, a diminishing Prem and England rugby looking increasingly lacking a future.

Whilst I've not been able to go to many games recently - it's still a disappointment as I've chosen to watch Wasps and their players all the way back to the late 70s. Seeing those players for Wasps and in Divisional games. I identified as a Wasp in Australia in '87 during the first RWC and was able to watch England train at Sydney Uni at lunch time. And look out for the Wasps like my hero, Jeff Probyn amongst 6 Wasps in the squad.

It means I'm now "just" a rugby fan. But the motivation to watch games will be much harder.

Have a good evening all - off for a pint.

I'm doubtless being thick - but if we've asked about 6ways, presumably we have an overall "package" that would fit with playing in the Championship. Players, coaching, support staff

Otherwise, we've got nothing?

They've asked for next season so you have to assume so.
I'll keep crossing random limbs......

It was the tone of the article which was a bit "surprised" that refreshed students might get into bother.....It's always been like that - I went to the odd last 80's Varsity match at Twickenham and there was entertainment on every corner...

again, this is all very nice but announcing what we plan to do in the future without funding & planning is just a business plan to convince the RFU that the Legends are serious.

None of that is going to get a team out on a pitch in September, its details about that which I want to see.

That was my first thought too. It looks a lot like an "outline" business plan with "outline" doing a lot of hard yards. I really would like to see some info on a team playing this autumn, how and where.

I don?t think anyone can realistically switch allegiance. And Mike - hope you?re OK.
Thank you. I have days when the long covid symptoms (as I've never tested +ve) mean a 20 minute walk with the dog leaves me resting for hours....I need to use public transport to get to games - and longer journies can be a risk....and randomly so!

But - if we are playing next season, I will see you there!

20 minutes? I can't do more than 50 yards without having to take rest and catch my breath. Before Covid, I could walk for 3 or 4 miles easy. I used to work as a volunteer lockkeeper for the CRT, had to give that up too. I can't stand and watch a rugby game. I have to sit, and park really nearby. Still can't get a blue badge though. I was a season ticket holder at Stratford upon Avon. Actually got to 2 matches.
That's really bad. It was just an example - I've gone from Alpine walking holidays to sometimes barely making 100m with the dog. The 20mins was an example only. And the main problem is that the symptoms are random. That 100m can produce severe flu like symptoms with what seems like an inability to produce ATP for muscle use, or nothing at all - with no prior indications. I can't drive and so need to use public transport and so even a short trip is taking a risk.
