I agree with the article. Basically we've been a couple of clinical moments away from sitting pretty on 14 or 15 points. Completely agree that that's great to say but at some point we have to actually nail those points. But for me we look better in attack, defence and set piece and just need to nail key moments and improve discipline for the results to come. I think Bridge is a little harsh in his front row assessment as especially at loose head Zhvania and Harris behind McIntyre have been absolutely fine.

Reflecting on an issue that has struck me looking through our first four squads I'm starting to think the era of Championship players migrating to the Premiership may be coming to an end. Foreign imports, recycling other prem players and academy products seem to have put an end to the possibility of coming up through the leagues. Looking at Wasps specifically last year we recruited Neal, Morris, Atkinson and Le Bourgeois. I don't think we could say any have broken through. We then had the Mike Daniels scenario and this year we're already seeing Vukasinovic slip down the order with Alo not featuring either. Is the gap between the leagues now to big to bridge?

Sad news indeed. Didnt know him personally but felt involved when he started writing about his condition. RIP.

I agree Hymoneptera. We are dealing with small margins. We simply have too many good players to be far away. For me we're so desperate to win this year that we're almost snatching at things. That's frustrating but not nearly as worrying as the ambivalence and lack of interest of last year. In attack I've heard several times already "that's like the Wasps of two years ago". I think we just need to improve the discipline, concentrate on the basics and the talent we have will come through.

You can't plan to prevent a shoulder dislocation, so in this instance no
Its an entirely fair question Mike. I'd say we have a proliferation of ACL's which bears looking into. These are particularly worrying as they are season scenarios. I'm also not convinced that our game management in the latter stages is not connected to fatigue rather than lack of nous.

Ok, it was more of a general question, given last year especially

Yes, that's a really good point BG. Hope it doesn't come to pass. I think Launchbury is a slightly different animal to Cipriani and there is no shortage of huge 2nd rows in France. I seriously think if the Sarries points deduction holds there will be precious little between the league this year.

A real shame this is. We can't catch a break injury wise. I'm not convinced it's a conditioning problem. I'd certainly be resting Shields, Vailanu and Carr against Bordeaux.

It doesn't have to be RWC players coming back. We have Launchbury, J Willis, T Willis, Young, Watson, Vellacott and Rieder to come back. That's arguably one of the best second rows in the league, one of the best sixes, certainly one of the best sevens and a seriously dangerous wing.

Of course that's technically correct but the cap hasn't moved and Sarries have signed more players. It wasn't as if they marginally went over, they breached by a considerable way. Surely we can't get into the lunacy of a cycle whereby they do nothing playing personnel wise and just get punished each year.

Of course we can! Do you actually have any faith it will change.
Fair point!!

Irish looked pretty impressive today. That's a decent amount of points they've put on Tigers. The Prem this year really is going to be a quagmire.

It got a whole lot more possible with the points deduction.

The points deduction means zilch. They will be in positive points early in the New Year. All it means is they are very unlikely to win the league. So long as their team is fully funded within the cap and no adjustment is made they will roll over every team especially if they partially abandon Europe as McCall said.
Agree about them being in positive points. But I'm puzzled as to how they continue with a squad that's been found in breach of the rules. The lack of clarity on it is bizarre. They've already secured points, after the decision, with a squad the decision found against.

Welshwasp - not hindsight - I thought it at the time. At that time we were less certain about DR's situation and had inexperienced back up. Vellacott was a key cog. I accept injuries can happen in training/at home etc but you can lessen the probability and that's what I'd have done in such a key position.
