Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: EXETER CHIEFS to sell non rugby asset
« on: November 06, 2022, 10:26:02 AM »
I see the Cheats won again to make it 8 from 8 in what was described as a ‘dour’ game full of ‘kick tennis’. They failed to pick up a try bonus point (can’t think why..?) so obviously need to add the likes of Alfie to their ranks in case their 10 point lead starts to slip…

English professional domestic rugby is dead in the water as a form of competitive and mildly interesting sport. Baxter needs to shut up and concentrate on keeping up - at the moment the only reason I can see for him wanting a 10 team league is to keep The Cheat’s lead down and deny them six wins.

PRL and the RFU should hang their heads in shame at allowing the game to come to this..eight years of spineless self interest has made the game irrelevant.

Did they - didn't know.

Watched the excellent Amazon Coverage of fairly exciting rugby (exception being the Welsh match)

Haven’t seen or heard any results this weekend.watched Amazon coverage too.Today various games on rugby Europe tv , ( Netherlands v Germany starting now) will see how they go.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: A cursed stadium?

Seem to remember when Wasps first went there , a story of a builder ,who supported a rival football club , burying something to curse the stadium, when it was constructed.

Haven’t been watching Premiership games as no interest in outcome. Have taken in womens World Cup as  sort of neutral .

May well turn on Scotland v Australia ( Amazon prime 5:30 today for anyone not aware) to see how it goes.

As to future , enjoy watching in the flesh, so considering championship side .Probably Bedford as closest . Did look at Ampthill but seems to have too many ties to Saracens.

When Baxter first mentioned a 10 team league, wasn't his comment framed in terms of player welfare? i.e. less games

It's since included best players being more visible, which may be true.

It also includes the far fetched idea that more people will turn up cos there's less games

From there its almost become a blueprint

Especially when in next breath it’s “we will make up shortfall of games with a bigger/more meaningful Premiership cup”.

Tough to take really - I can only hope something like Diamond’s consortium can emerge for us.

Just to get this off my chest, I saw a bit of the first half of the Glaws v Exeter game and it was very clear in the coaching box that Baxter was directing things. I thought he’d changed roles and Hepher was in charge now? Given they got well beaten and are now mid table and playing controlled but unattractive rugby, I don’t understand why Baxter has so much to say about the Prem being reduced to 10 and gets so many column inches. He’s yet to replicate Wasps achievements in titles and providing England players, yet he gives the impression he considers himself and Chiefs as bigger than they really are. I’ve not heard any advocacy of a ‘Super 10’ from Borthwick, Skivington, Sanderson, Matson or even McCall who have been a lot less publicly ‘pushy’ on the subject. perhaps a little humility would do him some good.

Sorry if I’m sounding bitter, but he’s become a little too outspoken and I’m probably a little sore about our demise at the moment.

Those you’ve mentioned are perhaps more aware of their own clubs difficulties ( McCall excepted) and don’t wish to comment in case they end up as the third club out.  McCall mostly avoids ever giving a public opinion.

At least it’s a fairly positive story, apart from making sure funds are there for womens team and fixtures becoming walkovers.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Uncomfortable question

Think getting ahead of ourselves here. Remember that it is only Wasps holdings that is in administration at the moment. ACL (wholly owned subsidiary)has only this week given notice of admin this week . It’s ACL that owns the stadium which is securing the bond. So still trying to sell it as a going concern before ends up in administration. How much gets paid for it is a guessing game . Might only get £30 million which means lots of people lose.

Just read something on Cov telegraph that says Ccfc are paying £600,000 annually to use arena . Not sure if that includes any extra games (cup etc) but sounds like a set fee. So works out at 25k to 30k a game.

I thinknits really interesting and quite telling that Steve Vaughan has managed to shift rhe blame onto the "management" while conveniently not mentioning that he was CEO and therefore ultimately in charge of the management.

Everyone was thrilled when he came on board because he was supposed to turn us around, but what did he actually manage to do?

Cut the player budget, remove the match day experience, and bin our DoR without replacing him.

And yet he's the good guy...

Looked at his LinkedIn page when this first blew up. Can’t say he’s had any great success at any of the companies listed where he has had a major role. Unless he likes lost causes.

We signed plenty of injured players on the basis of their pre injury form. You just make a fitness test a condition of the contract.

I just thought all the players were signed got injured the day after they signed

Always remember that with Kurtley Beale.

Possibly one argument for immediate transfers.
