Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Could we afford Julian Savea?
« on: February 17, 2019, 03:06:07 PM »
Absolutely brutal by Toulon and their owner.
He has not been great but neither have Toulon. He has had an absolute lack of conditioning this year and put on weight, been played a bit in the centres and he is clearly not high on confidence.

With wade, Curtis and Mullan gone mid season and now injury dispensation money available for Billy (although appreciate Savea is not a like for like) we must have cap available.
I would go for it, but can imagine him just wanting to go back to NZ after this

Think he’s also hardly played because of Billy and Jackson Wray in front of him

Fardy, Zhvania, Jimmy, Lima, Fekitoa and Toomaga-Allen (depending on passports of course) might not work very well on the foreign player front

Re. Exeter BG

They have had a few Australians down there but not galacticos really. Lachie Turner was there first, not long after he was a regular for Aus, Greg Holmes and Dave Dennis were probably bigger signings still, Nic white probably the biggest SH signing they’ve had from Aus.
Cordero maybe the most effective?

No I haven’t seen him play myself at Leeds, saw his cameos in Auckland and some highlights but a friend in Leeds has seen him play a few times including the away game at Nottingham this weekend and says despite him still being raw and still getting bigger, if we don’t play him next season someone else will offer him a deal elsewhere.

Just want him to be filtered in. Give him faith that there is a route in for him. Daly, Miller, WLR have all made plenty of mistakes under the high ball and with missed tackles etc this season and I think playing some of these young guys in a struggling team is not going to help them or the team. However if we can gain some momentum and find some form again then this is when we can filter the likes of him, Willis and Porter in.

Again good to see Daly playing heads up rugby with heart and smile on his face.
Also caught a few contested high balls today as well.

I hope now that the weight has been lifted regarding him moving on, that he will come back to us and enjoy his rugby going out on a high for us

Umaga absolutely shone at 10 last year in the AW Cup when it was confirmed he would be focusing on playing 10 rather than 12.
Conor Eastgate who was also playing well at 10/12 at the same time and I believe will still play prem rugby at some stage was let go, I imagine as we were stocked well enough with Umaga and the incoming Searle.

Now Umaga is flying at Champ level at FB and needs a shot at 10/12/15/23 next season.
Perhaps if he is another option at 10 it allows him, Lima or Searle to also become options at 12 like Jimmy. Not ideal of course but also worked out ok with Jimmy.

JdJ and Fekitoa comfortable at 12/13
Jimmy in there as well, Booj as 3rd/4th choice 12, Neale 3rd choice 13 - 10s also available at 12, Simmonds, Spink and Anderson still a little lightweight but coming through well to play A league.

I can see Gaby being given a one year deal to cover 12/13/wing but with him likely to retire soon and Jimmy next year probably as well we need another front line centre soon to complement Fekitoa and JdJ unless Neale and Booj can step up a little.

Max Clark rumours however might mean Gaby is off and we’re after another decent and EQP immediately

Agree, should have easily been given 25 minutes. The game was won, we know what Ben Youngs can do and that he has formed a relationship with Farrell, now we need to see Robson do the same.

Considering how Care has been jettisoned I really hope Young’s stays fit for the World Cup as, even though we all know what Robson can do here, he has not played with Farrell since U20 days.

Hopefully Robson will get good game time against Wales and Scotland and hopefully get the start against Italy

Was Jude Williams the same winger on the left in the last game or scored a few tries? Absolute jet shoes

How Rieder bounces back could well determine how active we are in the market for a Hughes replacement.
If Rieder can progress like Guy Thompson did and if Morris can do the same, between them Jack Willis, of course Nizaam Carr and the emergence of Tom Willis I believe we are well set, primarily at 8 but also at 6

Dai has signed and picked the top championship players, recently over promoting from within, or at least waiting until the academy bears fruit.
Now (even though we arguably have had before) we have a regular champ starter, who is really digging Carnegie out of a whole, who is young and belonging to our academy and ready to go in a position we need someone next year.
I would start him straight away next year and bring in a very experienced prem winger to play alongside him (sharples or Ashton type) with Bassett.

Would then rotate Sirker/James in too. They have to be the future in the backs along with giving Porter game time and continuing to see how the likes of Spink, Jardine, Simmonds and Atta get on.

These guys have to be given the faith and be seen as the future like the Willis bros are by Dai

Saw the other Kpoku brother is being linked with a move to France.
No way Sarries can keep all of those second rows happy. Appreciate he hasn’t made the same impact Joel has but must have a few clubs looking at him. Hope we are at least making an enquiry.

Max Clark is a good player when he can stay fit, perhaps a replacement for someone like Gaby but not too dissimilar to Ross Neal who also cannot get a game in the centres.
Hope JdJ is not off too

And can just be agents talking to clubs.... or the press

Rumours on twitter that Launchbury too has the ‘Daly clause’ in his contract.

Unless him or his wife have family that way I’m not sure why he’d want to head to Sale
