Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Wow

Will he struggle as Christian did to make the grade? I see wide receiver/running back ss his options. Probably needs to add some kgs of bulk as well.

It's a hard road for those who have never played it before.

I with him well and a sack load of luck - he will need it.

Its an interesting one. After leaving bucks for hot or cold NJ ive got pretty into my NFL. Christian tried to make the move when he was a little to old and then got a bad injury. LRZ has a Dad that is mega into his NFL and it seems he has been into it for a long time. Looking at where he will play. One of the best is Tyreek Hill who is shorter and ligher than LRZ. I think he could be a great TE. He is a little shorter than Kelce, but it wont take many Big Macs to be his size. He is too tall to be a RB IMHO, so tight end of wide receiver is where he will go. If he can prove he can catch a ball in many scenarios i think he can make it.

So how much money do we think Derek lost ?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Road back to the Prem
« on: February 16, 2023, 11:05:12 PM »
There?s a huge difference between being funded to pay off rugby debts because some of that money may be one off goodwill contributions and building an organisation that buys promotion.

I don?t want us buying promotion, that way needs unsustainable costs or a sugar daddy.

Well i cant see our new owners wanting to see as us a long term championship club. So a lot boils down to that point. If they want to get into the Prem then there could be a big risk of it being ring fenced and off limits forever. Therefore making it happen now maybe the only way. Today there are no championship clubs that appear to be eligble for promotion, so it wouldnt be us trying to jump the line. Look at the money Bristol spent to get back in and Sarries. If you want it you need to spend big and even bigger in subsequent years.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Road back to the Prem
« on: February 16, 2023, 10:13:07 PM »
Ok, so time to dream but at the same time there are some interesting points that need covering off.

I am assuming that our new owner haven't raised lets say 5m to pay off previous debt and then show we have a solid plan moving forward for shits and giggles. However it appeared to be stated before that depending on our ability to get promotion that may affect who our backers are and how deep their pockets are.

So I am assuming we should be one of the best funded teams in the Championship next season.  If maybe FUD, but talk of Ealing joining the Welsh as they cant get promoted even if they win the championship. So what would make us different ? If we play at Solihul and by some miracle win the Championship surely the ground will stop us being promoted ? That being the case wouldn't Sixways be a better option now ? Or do the owners have a master plan ? How long before the Prem is ring fenced and we will never be able to get promoted ?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Wasps to Sixways - Telegraph

It?s beyond question that I?d support Wasps if we moved to Sixways. I don?t see the difference between there and Loftus Road, Adams Park or the Ricoh from a moral perspective. If anything it?s rescuing an empty building. My main worry is pushing so much through before the 14th. If we aren?t allowed to compete in the Championship next year we will be finished.

Are we still not waiting on the outcome of if there will be promotion or not. That would impact our set of investors. If there is then hopefully we will have some reasonable backing and can make this happen. Lets dream and think we did put out a competitive team next year, with Sixways we have a route to the Prem. In Solihull we would have to move again. Am I missing something ?

I do not like this at all.

It feels almost as if they've sat down and planned out the only possible move that would be even less popular than moving to Coventry.

I don't know if I can support that team.

Well i don't think we planned calling in the administrators. It may well be that alarm bells were raised about the Worcester bid and they reached out to our buyers.

Like many i would love to see us just off the Chiltern Line, but for now thats not going to happen. I guess if we move to Sixways then this will be long term, where Solihul would off been short term.

I'm sure that there will be a very vocal amount of WW fans that would never go to a game at Sixways, but on the counter side there will also be a number that given the chance of going to see Premership rugby or not will go (assuming we can get promotion). I'm not sure there should be a lot of hatred towards Wasps as i can't see how we have caused their demise. We will also get to see if all these so called Coventry faithful will make the trip.

Once a Wasps always a Wasp. So i will support them if we indeed end up in Worcester, but going to be tough for now attending games from Princeton NJ :)

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: EXETER CHIEFS to sell non rugby asset
« on: November 11, 2022, 09:26:03 PM »

Its also an asset that once disposed of wont be generating profit/cash in the future. There are also two less home games to generate much needed revenue. if the salary cap increases next year even Exeter may struggle to balance their books.

One of the things i picked up on was this statement. If true it really does show we are struggling. A prem club without any social media team and hoping for freebies.

"Wasps' apparent slow down on communications could indeed be linked to the ongoing bond issue but it could also be a knock-on effect of losing both its communications manager and its digital and social media manager in April.

Advertisements for two communication roles were advertised but have subsequently been removed, with the club last week posting on its website a vacancy for a matchday media officer on a voluntary basis, with expenses"

"To answer one point raised - the new hotel is required because they have identified how much they lose by having a small hotel on site when a large exhibition is in the arena. Most exhibitors and visitors have to find accommodation elsewhere in the city so they want to capture more of that trade. Sensible to my mind"

I understand the logic behind the hotel. I question how much of a revenue spinner it will be. When will it even be ready ? How is it being funded ? Are we not losing car parking space for fans to build it ? If we ever get back to much bigger crowds then parking wasn't the easiest.  As a Hilton Diamond member I welcome the hotel and it will be a good use of my points potentially :)

On the field it will be interesting to see what our squad is for next year. As it has been for the past few seasons it seems that outgoing quality may not be fully replaced. Let’s see on that front. I will keep the faith.

You do realise the salary cap is coming down next season right?
[/quote]

Yes. I know it's down temporarily and we lose a marque. However as I seem to remember that we were not at the cap this year, that being the case we should need to adjust less than most.  Ok, we nicked one from Sarries, but not seeing many signs of them making lots of changes. Sale ? Bristol ? Looks like we are losing all our Kiwis and Thomas for starters. Will we even hit the cap next year ?

One of the richest clubs in Europe being the main one and 8 years later we seem to be one of the poorest.

How so?  We have one of the biggest grounds, many non-rugby businesses, a stunning training centre.  It's just we work within the salary cap, that doesn't mean the club isn't better off than others. I get that it's really disappointing to be in the position we are in, but are you suggesting that we should be doing a Sarries and buying some success by cheating?

At the meeting in Marlow we were told that this move made us the richest club in Europe with multiple income streams. We had a few years without Covid to blame and that starts to look like a statement that has not been backed up. We certainly signed some big names, gave away a load of free tickets, had JLR sponsorship and a nice fan village. That all started to go south rather quickly. We can’t afford to pay Pete and even the drummers have been canned (not a big loss)

I’m still not sure where the turnaround is going to come from. I don’t think a new Hilton hotel is our saviour. Would like to see how much that will contribute.

We really need to improve the match day experience to attract new fans. Even for us die hards we deserve better than we are being offered. I just hope it’s sorted ready for when I escape the USA back to Blighty.

It felt a little bit like the reverse of our Sale game. I think we took them too lightly and they wanted it more.
Sarries probably thought they just needed to turn up. Jimmys 100th game and a team with nothing to lose and a desire to win performed :)

I’ve got NBC as well and use Express VPN.

Advantage of NBC is every game live and full replays. Whilst you get the BT commentary during the games shown on BT you don’t get the build up and nothing at half time

Where we live, in the sticks between Prestwood and Hughenden, not too far from High Wycombe, there is no chance of those speeds - the nearest cable is nearly 1000m away.

Until recently our top speed, at about 3am in the morning, was about 1Mbps, during the day as low as 0.3Mbps. Then they installed a new fibre cabinet and our speed increased immensely.

We are on TalkTalk and routinely get 25-28Mbps. Our neighbours are on Sky and BT and get slightly lower (about 20-23Mbps)

Where we live is idyllic - but technology is something you can't worry about. Mobile phone is only useable in one room (assuming on the correct carrier - EE, 3 signals are non-existent), have to use Satellite tv and no DAB signal.

I'm renting at the top of Cryers Hill so cant be far away from you :)
