Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Wasps 2019/20 anticipated league position
« on: October 27, 2019, 11:48:01 AM »
I think we'll be ok injuries allowing. If we can get Robson fit and Gopperth back you'll see a different Sopoaga. Minozzi will allow Watson to go back to the right wing and once Willis x 2 and Young are fit our back row options are impressive. Most on here would identify second row and 12 as our areas of need but even according accounting for that I think we'll be between 4th and 8th. We need a win to get us rolling.

If Robson is out we need a short term cover signing. We just have no luck with these things. We struggle without either Willis or Young in the side and we also lose the option of Carr at 8.

Amazing how a loss can skew perception. On the trading up or down scenario over the last two or three years far from zero I would argue Shields for Haskell, Carr for Hughes, Brookes for Moore, Minozzi for Le Roux (one good season only), Fekitoa and Kibirige for extra depth and that's ignoring the emergence of Willis x 2, T Young and Umaga.

Actually thought we were edging our way back into that before Fekitoa's yellow. Scrum is going well and Sopoaga was good I thought today. But we're just not clinical enough at the moment and both of our opponents so far have scored tries against us quite easily. Not time to panic yet by any means but it would be nice to get some more points on the board soon.

I can see what you're saying but to be fair to him he takes quite a lot of hits without any histrionics. On the wider point of rugby drifting towards football type reactions to contact etc I wouldn't worry, it's still a million miles away.

Could be. There is no other option in the squad.

Morning all. Good luck Vespula. I'll take any sort of point today.

Shame about Willis. Second row will always look lightweight in the absence of Launchbury. Even so, surprised to see Flament over Vukasinovic. It's going to be tough and it looks like it will be a mud bath.

Great news that Gopperth is involved in training again. That would be a huge lift. Regards Johnson I think he's behind JW, BS and TY but he does tend to make an impact! One player I've heard nothing about is Morris??

Great news. So many positive indications out of this not least that you don't undertake this sort of thing if you don't have cash.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Scrum Time.
« on: October 22, 2019, 09:39:01 PM »
This may well have been discussed before but one of the biggest blights on the game at the moment for me is time lost to re-set scrums. On Sunday a conservative estimate in my opinion would be 10 minutes lost. That's a huge chunk of time. Rugby is a long way ahead of most other sports in terms of common sense laws and use of technology. The answer to this is surely stunningly simple - stop the clock until the front rows engage.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Daly in the spotlight
« on: October 22, 2019, 07:22:20 PM »
It's quite right that the spotlight is on Daly as a full back. Defensively he never seems to make a tackle and apart from one or two moments has done little in attack. It's not really his fault. He's being played out of position. His problem is that he's probably now not good enough at 13 or wing to get picked ahead of the current incumbents. That goes for England and Sarries.

The question I'd love answered is about Sopoaga. Is he being instructed to play so deep or is he just going there. It seems to be crippling our attack. Granted we are crying out for a distributing 12 but if we don't have one it's pointless playing as if we do.

Thought that myself. Match day experience for me is governed by the result/display. Doesn't matter if there is an oompah band or toilets made of gold if we lose and don't perform it's quite unenjoyable.
