Wasps Rugby Discussion / A test
« on: December 02, 2017, 10:23:59 AM »
I have changed the way people register.  They now do not need admin approval, but have to answer three simple questions about Wasps.  It is possible we will end up with some spam, so apologies if we do.  If it doesn't work then I will switch it back.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Morning All!
« on: December 02, 2017, 09:47:46 AM »
I really enjoy the morning all posts so I'd like to do it here too.

So Morning all from a cloudy Hampshire.

Youngest child is fully recovered from Chickenpox, but of course the other two now have it so my house is still a plague pit.  I'm going to be doing my best to watch the game any way I can while being nursemaid to them while Mrs VV works.

I'm not completely confident about today, we are missing a few of our best players, but then so are they and we should have the home advantage.  I'd really like to come away with a solid win, but as long as we don't capitulate I'll be satisfied.  After all we were terrible a few games ago so any decent performance will do.  That being said I know far too many Tigers fans to be truly happy with a loss, however it happens.  I seriously need bragging rights.

I'm not 100% convinced by Daly on the wing, but if it allows us to play some of the centre combinations that have fired well, and still have him on the pitch then I'm not too unhappy about it.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Player Influence in the Falcon's Game
« on: November 19, 2017, 01:43:19 PM »
In the absence of a replay or highlights to watch this morning I have taken the stats form the Premiership website and plugged them into a spreadsheet to see what came out the other end.

Obviously as an approach this is seriously flawed as it takes not account of set pieces, and the values I have allocated the different actions are arbitrary at best.

I have given the following values.

Every metre made scores 1pt
A try scores 20pts
A turnover 10pt
A carry over the gainline 5pts
A tackle 3pts
A Pass 2pts

Using these numbers it shows that the most influential player on the pitch was Christian Wade with 198 points, followed closely by Jimmy Gopperth with 193.  The least influential was Kiernan Myall with 9pts.  Probably not a surprise after his injury, but Kyle Eastmond and Gaby Lovabalovu both scored more then 100 despite having been off injured, and effectively only playing half a game each.

I'm very happy to adjust the numbers if anyone is interested, and also to share more players ratings.

According to reports he's coming to us in order to try to break into the England squad.

I'm a little torn to be honest, yes he's a great player with a  huge amount of potential, but not only does that mean we're likely losing one of out first choice back row (My money is on both Jones and Hasks, but possibly also Youngyoung) but the last time we signed a freak talent who had turned down the All Blacks it didn't work out the way we hoped (Leiua).

Time will tell I guess.

Morning all from the plague house I currently live in.

Youngest has chicken pox and we're expecting both of the others to catch it now as they haven't had it before. Not gonna be a fun few weeks...

Not sure how I feel about this game, at the end if last season I'd have said we should have it in the bag, but we've really struggled this season, and Falcons have been playing really well. I hope our returning players will make the difference...

A real bonus is seeing Ashley having the captaincy on his 150th game. He's become one of my all time favourite Wasps players. A real legend.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Willie Le Roux

I guess this opinion makes me a bit of an outlier, but I honestly think he is one of our better players.

I accept that he has made a lot of errors, but I think there is a lot more to it than him just messing up.

For the last month or so we have been very poor as a team.  For whatever reason the entire squad has failed to turn up on a number of occasions. However he has not stopped trying.

Many of our players have been lethargic and seemed almost despondent.  Our line speed was down, we weren't trying for the type of play that defined our season last year.  But he still was.

Yes he's f**ked up, but at least he was trying. I'd always rather see players try and fail than not bother trying.

And as to people saying he is no Beale, am I the only person that remembers the slating Beale got when he first stepped out in a Wasps shirt because he was doing stupid things that gave the ball away, knocking on, offloading directly into the hands of the opposition and so on.

I honestly believe WLR is class and is one of the best supporting players we have had for a long time.  He struggles to make the magic happen himself, but when someone like Beale (I know he's gone, but the example still holds), or Daley, or Gabi does something ridiculous that actually works there is no-one I'd want running alongside him more than WLR.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Rumours about Wadey
« on: October 07, 2017, 07:41:50 PM »
Any thoughts on these?

I met him and his dad at the Sale game and they both seemed very happy and settled.  He seemed genuinely pleased to meet my kids and sign some gear for them, and his dad seemed like he was close friends with the club staff I was being looked after by.  So I'd be surprised if he went.

That being said whilst I'd be sad, because I think he is amazing, I wouldn't blame him for a second if he left.  The way he has been constantly denied the opportunity to show he can do what he does better than anyone else on the biggest stage is criminal.  And if he can make some good money moving to France where he has no need to prove himself other than by playing the way he usually does then I'd be happy for him.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / 4th Choice?

With PDJ being stretchered off who is our 4th choice Tight head?  Do we even have one?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Rose
« on: October 01, 2017, 03:19:02 PM »
So Rose argued with the ref to penalise Hughes when he's already said it wasn't foul play.

If a player argues with the ref they get sent off. Why is the fraudster allowed to do it?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Moving on to the Bath Game

I've been wondering about the team were going to put out for this, and I'm really have no idea who is even fit any more.

I think it's gonna be a struggle for us.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Thoughts about todays's game?
« on: September 24, 2017, 10:36:49 AM »
I am not convinced we can win this one.

Well that's not actually true.  I know we can win it.  But I doubt we will.

There is a definite monkey on our backs with Chiefs and I don't know if today is the day to throw it off.  But a bit of me keeps thinking of the Valentine's day massacre and what we managed to do that day with a team that wasn't at full strength.

If JdJ clicks, then we might do better than I hope.  But whilst SuperJimmy is a rock of a man who is never going to take a backward step against them, I do think we will miss Cips' magic.

Time will tell...

Wasps Rugby Discussion / The dilemmma continues...
« on: September 12, 2017, 09:25:30 AM »
After Sale I thought Dan had finally put the discussion about who is our best 9 to bed, but Joe stepped up against Wuss and showed he is still a brilliant choice.

I don't envy Dai the decisions he has to make!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Sam Jones
« on: September 07, 2017, 08:25:54 AM »
Despite all the reassurances that he was fine and raring to go we still haven't seen Sam Jones. I didn't even see him in the players lounge after the Sale game despite almost all of the other injured or rested players being there.

Any guesses?

My thoughts are that at some stage this season we'll hear of him having to retire due to complications of his injury. I seriously hope I'm wrong though...
