Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: SURPRISE SURPRISE
« on: July 26, 2019, 06:15:22 PM »
For me it's simple and much though I enjoyed watching Cipriani at Wasps I think overall Farrell and Ford are better 10's.

On that we will never agree. I guess it comes down to your philosophy and views on how rugby could be played.

Test rugby is a game of percentages and reliability so in that respect Farrell fits,  he is consistent, but consistently about 70% of the player that Cipriani is. Ford is a myth or an enigma depending on your viewpoint.
Yes, depends on what you want. Cipriani is an outstanding talent of that there is no doubt. But I don't think he can control a game like Ford and Farrell at international level. And international coaches crave that control.

I enjoy both sites. It's all Wasps chat after all! DW can get a bit more negative I find but that is the opinion of the individual poster. Some people you can debate with, some you can't. At the end of the day it's enjoyable to have a couple of places to debate Wasps stuff - the more the merrier.

The point is it may be right and it may be wrong that Cipriani can't take instruction and can go missing. It's up for debate. What doesn't seem to be in question is that Jones thinks there is some sort of issue hence the repeated non selection. For me it's simple and much though I enjoyed watching Cipriani at Wasps I think overall Farrell and Ford are better 10's.

And Johnson! Our back row options really are excellent.

Take the point about international novices not going well at the RWC - that's probably why Cipriani won't go. It may be controversial but I think it's the right call. Really hoping Brown does go. I love Daly as a player at centre or wing but he's no full back.

I thought Shields had a good season actually once he'd got through the cheekbone stuff. Certainly post Christmas he was excellent and to me looked a "proper" player. He looks like leadership material as well and I think in his second season we'll realise what a calibre of player we've got. Big dilemma is when he and Willis are both available who starts at six! Nice problem!

From Wasps point of view it came along at the right time for the short term need to commit to building the new training facility and possibly service some debt. Not sure what effect they'll have on the game long term but it will give us a bit of breathing space financially when we really need it.

Yes, good article. On paper we've lost talent but I just sense we'll be a lot better next season than last. A settled squad who all appear to want to be here with a good influx of youngsters does give that feelgood factor. The balance of the squad looks better and I think we'll rely on the squad rather than individuals. Very encouraging signs in my opinion.

Hope Robson makes it for his sake. But I must admit the thought of having him available to train and develop with Vellacott, Sopoaga etc whets the appetite. Personally I think Vellacott was a fantastic signing and sees us with great sh options.

Looking forward to these mostly because it's getting rugby back! I'd like to see some of the academy step ups appearing as we'll need them in the season proper.

Yes, was hoping we'd get a fit Minozzi as he is an exciting prospect. At full back there may be an issue in the GP in terms of physicality in defence but going forward he could be great. Gives us wing options as well.

Looks like decent news overall. I'd like to see Gopperth get a few games under his belt and the other very key update will be Robson.

Not too worried about this one. LI have a lot of new players to bed in and we're at home. Wasps by 15.

Hoping he can get back to full fitness. Sopoaga, Searle and Umaga give us good options at 10 and with Gopperth and even Miller as options it must be the most amount of depth in that position we've had in a long time.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Tony Rowe - no fan of Jones' England
« on: July 08, 2019, 08:17:10 PM »
I think Exeter as a whole have had a problem with England as they've equated their own success with the idea that vast swathes of their squad should have been selected by Jones. They are a team which is greater than the sum of its parts which is why it hasn't happened that way for them.
